Default Blades on a spinnerbait...

Well ive really gotten into making my own spinnerbaits.I am very attatched to willow blades though, but are the colorado blades better? ive heard they imitate shad better. i know how the colors are diferent but what about the shape. what has been most effective for yall?

Different tools for different jobs. I make my own spinnerbaits as well. The Colorado blades are better IMO for real murky/muddy water and at night. I usually use just one big, single blade. They put out more vibration than a willowleaf blade and are easier for the fish to find in low light/low visibility situations.

Not to be vague here, but blade choice is usually determined by the water you are fishing. Big, bulky, water moving blades for dark or muddy water. Thinner, more flash than noise for clearer water. Then you have gold or silver or copper depending on the sky. I carry a large selection of various size, type and color of blades.

I like a round blade (colorado, Indiana) in off color water and early in the year if I want to displace water. I like willow blades in warmer water, and in clearer water to imitate baitfish.

I throw a lot of stuff with a small gold colorado and a silver willow. That is my most versitile blade combination.

i typically use colorado blades in murky or stained water because i was told they make more chatter, shimmer, and vibrations..in clear water i use willow blades...in murky or stained waters i use vibrant colors and in clear water i try to imitate the baitfish with the most natural colors i have...hope this helps...

I use Indiana blades most of the time. Unless conditions call for a specific blade. I like the Indiana because it is a perfect comprimise between the Colorado and the Willow Leaf.
And for the record, I use gold way more than silver.

This year I've been going with colorado/indiana blades. I like the vibration these give, and I agree with zooker I like lighter wire as well, although there is the durability tradeoff. I've also been throwing white painted blades and gold blades a lot with good success.

How do you get a jig head on your wire to make the spinnerbait?
Might sound stupid, but i was just wondering

you have to have a mold for spinnerbaits. Same kinda process as a jig, just have the addition of the wire.

Ever seen a Beetle Spin ? you can find that same wire/blade combination sold in different sizes then you just slide your jig in.

Yea King, you use a mold and pour molten lead into it, making the head.
