Default Battery for trolling motor

I am planning on getting a Minn Kota Endura 30 for a 12 foot boat that I have, to fish from in a pond in instead of fishing from my paddle boat. Never had a trolling motor before so i dont know what battery i am suppose to get for it. I've read about deep cycles and dual purpose ones and I am confused on what the difference is. Your help is greatly appretiated.

get a deep cycle. dual purpose have a high cold crank reserve but low deep cycle reserve..basicly a dual is used for a fast, high power short duration with draw-like when you crank a car- a deep cycle has the longer reserve for a low powered consaint with drawl of juice..-like your trolling moter-

both can crank your car. both can be used on a troller. BUT the deep cycle will last longer per charge on your troller..

Yep, and if you don't have one when you get the battery also get a charger. When you get home after being on the lake put it on the charger-don't wait until you get ready to go again. The reason is if you don't charge it immediately it may take a set, meaning it will not fully charge.

If you want to save weight you can look at oddessy batteries. They weigh about 16lbs.

Another option for wiegh savings would be Hawker batteries (used on F16's).

Both options are deep cycle and weigh WAY less then you old school lead batteries.
