Default Have you seen the Roumba?

Fellas, as the winter closes in here in the frozen north, it is time to start thinking about restocking all my gear... The bait monkey loves this time of year.

I was recently reading about a japanese tackle company, IMA, and a new lure of theirs named the Roumba. It is a real sharp looking bait that is able to be fished as a wakebait or a shallow diving crankbait. It was really intriguing, but at 16.99 is a stretch for me. I was especially interested in the description of how it "walked" itself...

Take a look at http://www.tackletour.com for a brief article and some picts. Anybody have luck with something similair maybe not so pricey?

If i splurge, Ill let you know what it is like...

Yeah, I think they are made by professional angler Fred Roumbanis.

I made a killing in a pond with it the first time I tried it out, itīs crazy wobble when cranked in, doesnīt dive much, maybe a couple of feet ( which for that pond was exactly what I needed ) casts like a bullet even against strong wind. The finish is beautiful and the hooks are excellent. If you are a pond fisherman or fish a lot of flats with vegetation shell out the money, itīs worth every penny.

I just got one from Tackle Warehouse friday. I got the stinkbug color. I used it today , and cought 3 fish in 1/2 hour. It is a Wake Bait , and makes the "v" as it comes threw the water. It seemed to work great

Iīm just barely scratching the surface of whatīs available in the Japanese market , yeah I do have a bunch of japanese baits but thereīs a lot I havenīt tried , them japanese soft plastic plastic baits are simply fascinating and unique.

I really purchased the colors I liked, white was a good option because I can see the bait in most places I fish with either high or low light ( clear water ), Iīve always liked frog colored baits so frog was the second I got.

Waking type baits can pretty much be used anytime (spring like you suggested no doubt), but the premium time to use one is late fall/early winter, or when the water temps fall into the mid to upper 50's (I am sure you guys in Michigan have dropped below that by now). That is when most baitfish like the shad and herring make one last foray to back of the coves, creeks and sloughs. They start getting lethargic and swimming around kinda slow near the surface and often create a, you guessed it, "V wake". This is a sure fire meal for a bass that senses the falling water temps and wants to stock up on a easy meal before it gets too cold!

Any other wake baits you might recommend? I'm really intrigued by this concept....

You can make almost any super shallow diving crankbait behave like a wake bait BH, just lift your rod tip at 12 oīclock when reeling in and presto, youīve got yourself a wake bait, Banditīs Footloose, Sortmīs Subwart wake when reeled in with the rod tip held high.

The concept is not that difficult to understand and itīs been around for a long time, taken to a higher level by the old reliable Jitterbug, you attract the fish by sound/vibration and give him a path to follow to the bait with the wake it creates as it moves.
