Default New trolling motor

Well, as some of you know I destroyed my old trolling motor. Just ordered a new one and upgraded. I got a Motorguide 24V 84 lb digital. I'm pumped! The insurance covered the cost of a new one, so I just added some $ to it and got the one I wanted!

Nice Reb! When my boat is done being repaired I'll be looking for something similar.
Here is a little story for ya and one I need to get off my chest!...
I have a little 12' aluminum that I fish out of all the time and several local tournaments a week. I had a 36lb minn kota and it did well for about a year and a half and then took a crap. It needed a part replaced and I figured I wanted something with some more kick to get through the weeds so I just bought a 50lb minn kota the other day. The thing was great and got me everywhere just fine and then IT stopped working. Now I have another tourney tomorrow and no TM. I don't think I'll be buying from minnkota anymore. I'll just use my 4hp and some oars tomorrow. *sigh*

Loolz, take the TM back and get another one-I'm sure you can exchange it if it hasn't been too long since you bought it. I've had problems with MG too-there ain't a perfect TM.

Well Reb. I bought the old one a long time ago so I can't take it back. The new one was off Craiglist and I have no proof of purchase - my dumb fault. But I did talk to Minnkota and got two switches for the price of one. The switch is the part that failed on both of them. Better than nothing.

Nice TM, Reb. I'm looking at the digitals, myself. Leaning towards MKota because I like their service better. Like you said though, MGuide & MKota both have issues. I currently have one of each on hand & so far, no issues. Anyway, congrats on the new TM.

Do you remember the pirates down on Falcon Lake? They boarded his boat but all they wanted was his trolling motor.

Billy and bcklash, I wish I had a story like that, but in reality it was pure-d stupidity on my part. I was fishing with my father in law on an electrics only lake and was heading in about 8:30-almost dark. To get the boat on the trailer you make a high speed run, which ain't very fast for a trolling motor, at the trailer and yank the trolling motor up right before you get to the trailer and float on. Well, like I said it was almost dark. Backed the trailer down and here was my stupid mistake: I turned the lights off, so I couldn't see the end of the trailer. Waited about 1-2 seconds too long and CRACK-caught the end of the trailer with the head of the trolling motor so I couldn't pull it up. Couple that with the momentum of a 2000 lb bass boat and you get a trolling motor with a 45 degree angle in the shaft. Up to that point we had a great time and for the summer slows we did get 3 fish in the boat.

The insurance adjuster came by and totaled the TM so I am going to take that $, add some to it and get a much better TM.

Lesson learned.

BTW, for your boat owners Progressive has really done right by me. I highly recommend that company for boat insurance.

Perfectly understandable, in fact I've done that before. Just didnt have that much mass moving so no bent shaft.

Oh well, you found the silver lining.
