New to Bass
Hey there... I grew up fishing for pike/northern and walleye/pickerel... so I'm just used to the basic trolling, casting, and jigging. What are the differences from that to bass fishing?

Welcome, Bushrat!
Well, for one, plan to use a lot more money on your general tackle. Nowaday's the tackle world has everything from braided line that will tow a bus from Lake Baikal to rods and reels that feel as if they're filled with helium. Lots of choices, lots of money, lots of colors, etc, etc... Plan to buy lots of plastics and hooks, different weights(shapes/sizes), beads, line, boxes/storage, etc. For a good start I would suggest a couple(3+)packs of rubber worms like Berkley Powerbait, Berkley Gulp!, Yamamoto Senkos, YUM Dinger's, etc. After you have these, try getting some 1, 2, 3, or 4/0 size packs of Gamakatsu Offset EWG Worm Hooks. Bigger the number for bigger the worm. Try Texas-Rigging, Wacky-Rigging, or Carolina-Rigging these baits. Here's a link to show you how: http://www.bassfishin.com/bassfishin...ad.php?t=11719 You may also want to try some topwater poppers like an Excalibur Zell-Pop, Daiwa Mouth Washer, etc. These baits work great during Summer or Fall early in the morning or late at night. Try them right after you get lots of sun for an extended period of time. Wheeeeeew..... Zooker, Reb, Lizards, take it away my young, and may I say superior friends... -LL-

Oh, by the way LL, you forgot my favorite: The Crankbait. Bandits rule and you can't go wrong with Rapala.
BB P.S. Bushrat, watchout for the baitmonkey... (if you two haven't met yet, you will soon...) I don't know why but that felt like a "MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" moment.

Well jeeze Zookie, my young, yet superior friend, if you were so mad, why don't you just shoot me with you "big gun" like you shot that 65 LBER from 700yds. I mean, in theory we are about the same distance, aren't we?
Ahhhhhhh.... Your a funny guy Zook... -LL-

Sounds like you up to wards Canada, I'm Canadian I might be able to help you out. Fishing up to wards us is a little different then the guys down south. Water is different and the fish act a little different up our way.

Welcome to the forum, bushrat! I think you will find a lot of crossover between the species. A lot of the gear and tactics you use for walleye and pike will work for bass. I can't say from personal experience, but from what I've seen of pike/walleye fishing there are a few differences. Most folks don't troll for bass, and I can't recall ever seeing a Texas rigged or weightless soft plastic used for a walleye. I'd be willing to bet there are more similarities than there are differences.
