Eckshully, MY Spooks and Super Spook Jr.s assume a slight tail down attitude. If they did not, they would dig in rather than walk, especially if the line has sunk even slightly beneath the surface. This is why one ought not to use any of the fluorocarbon or fluorocoated lines with TW lures.
If your new baby is floating flat, try changing to a one-size-larger treble at the rear. Not only might that correct the float angle but, as well, increase chances for a hookup. Remember to install the line tie slight below the nose. This will help too. Thought: The line tie on a factory Spook is molded in, as part of the "harness" that also secures the hooks (or so it seems). If you are carving a copy from wood you'll have two options. One is to split the finished and UNpainted body from front to rear (surgical perfection required) and create a harness for line tie and hooks. See: Pain in the Arse! The other is to purchase and use those little "eye-bolts" available from luremaking supply sources. These must be long enough to hold firmly, especially those for the line tie and rear treble. This type of hardware balances differently than the harness, however so care must be taken. Also, since the line tie must be well into the wood AND at a slight down angle beneath the nose, you must be careful not to drill through the top of the lure. (Drill slightly thinner holes before screwing in the eyes. or you may split the wood...use some epoxy on the threads as well. You will also need a split ring to tie to, and that's critical to "walking the dawg." I recommend you purchase either oval or pear-shaped rings (for all your lures that use rings) since they make proper tie-on much easier. Keep up the good work! FR |

the Pop-R sits almost vertical...the waterline(with no line tied to it) was right at the edge of the lip on the bottom side..coming almost dead center through the eyes on the top...if that helps you out any. This was a rebel Pop-R, btw.
My spooks sit differently. I have two and one sits at over 45 degree's, my black one sits at a little under 45 degree's, it appears. My two excalibur poppin image jr's sit horizontally(probably because of their shape) and the tail is just submerged. *dunno what style popper you are making* |

Dude, the Rico is the best popper out there there's no other popper that sounds like it. It just does wonders on bass .. try the white bone color, that's the best one of them all. I got a buddy who swears by them too, he wrote an article if that would help any of you, here it ishttp://www.bass-city.com/article.asp?id=746

ok ken thanks, i thought my brothers pop-r was broke lol. i guess any of you got a picture of a rico in action, well sitting waiting for action.
cranky, i use jewler screw eyes, they seem to hold up pretty well, i tested them by screwing them into a block of wood, tying nylon rope with a lil hook on it and pulled they dont straighten easily at all, also i epoxy them in right before i paint the lure with epoxy.

well it has come time to paint the popper, what pattern do yo peoplez recommend? i have never used a pop-r type lure, closest is a hula popper, i prefer the spooks also i noticed a typo in my first post it says " i need a picture of you spook in water" i meant to say pop-r in water sorry about that, i didnt catch that until now, it would explain why fly snapper talked about his spooks lol, i was kinda confused about that.
also, keep in mind i paint with a brush....
