So far I have had my best luck on a Yum Buzz Frog by a large margine. Hey Patrick, have you see the BPS Humpin Toad? It looks a lot like the Stanley toad.

My favorite is the Stanley RIBBIT frog in the watermelon/red with the pearl belly. I also use a special hook. A local man makes them but I believe there are some similar commercial hooks available. They look like an EWG hook with half ( cut lengthwise ) of a 1/4 oz bullet weight molded to the eye end of the hook running from just below the eye and through the bend and there is a fine wire cork screw to affix the frog to. Great concept. They make the rig cut through and stay on top of thick matted beds of vegetation, while giving you the ability ( because of the weight ) to let them drop of edges and into pockets within the vegetation. This is where most of my strikes occur.

I normally use YUM buzzfrogs. but they roll over. I think this happens to all plastic frogs though. the buzz frog makes a low pitch gurgle while the horny toad makes higher pitch sounds. I'd personally go with the ZOOM horny toad.

If you didn't really want frogs like these you could try the SPRO Bronzeye frogs or scum frogs. they float, unlike softplastics, and the are also weedless. some of the scum frogs or bigfootfrog have softplastic paddle shaped legs like the YUM buzzfrog. you just don't have to reeel as fast to keep it on the surface cause it floats.

I've been tossing the Horny Toad (named after me, so I gotta be loyal) occasionally. Have yet to hook up. Been wanting to try the Gambler Cane Toad but no one around here carries them.
The lakes that Reb, ReddRooster, Guttboy, Colonel W., Jesse, and F.Rod normally phish are not very "froggy", so that may account for the dearth of interest on the part of the bass. Still, one would expect that all bass, whether or not they'd evAr seen or devoured a frawg, would possess an inate instinct to assail one at any opportunity.
I say this based on my own life experiences. After all, one eats everything he ever eats "for the first time", be it mother's milk, cheeseburgers, or even more, er, interesting items. Ergo, it stands to reason that Mr/Mrs/Ms Bass would say to him/her self "Well, I have no idea wot that is, but it MIGHT be tasty, so..."
That concludes the scholarly commentary for today...maybe.

Just got back from vacation. Cut it short a few days. Too much rain. Anyways I fished toads almost exclusively. Fished pads and some open water around them. Fished early morning till 9pm. They hit all day in the pads. I took about 20 or so different brands of toads. The number one brand-Horny Toad. They went after this more so than any other. I'll post later some results.

I just bought some Horney Toads by Zoom yesterday to try out. I have never fished these before.. What is the best way to rig them? Weighted/weightless?

How do you fish them? I am sorry to ask such NOOB questions, but this will be my first time trying one out.

they are a great topwater frog, but i personally t-rig them witha 1/4 oz. slip weight because the fish are a deeper where i fish.

i jus twitch it and let it sit for a short time then keep twitchin it and then i will reel it in a lil and twitch some more.

good luck!

Default Stanley Ribbits

Stanley Ribbits hands down fish better than any other frog in my opinion. The new floating version is awesome too!

Zook you can say that again. On my vacation I even had a muskie knock one 5 feet in the air. You can drag another brand over the pads but a toad won't get that far.
