Question White...

Where are white lures best used in? What color water seems to produce best for you guys with a white lure? I have heard to use them on bluebird skys - true? Feel free to lay it down. I'm in wonderment...

There are a couple of lakes about 2 hour drive from my home, the water in them is always muddy, but donīt think about being a little muddy, think about muddy to the point you can plow the water, absolutely zero visibility and which you think I catch my most fish with ? they just love white spinnerbaits with nickel blades.

In other words, color matters very little there are a big bunch of other things much more important than bait color. Vibration, speed, location, presentation, sound are by far more important than bait color.

What raul said is true to a point but color does matter in lakes where the bass can see. I like white when the water has some color to it. Makes it easier for the bass to see the lure esp with soft plastics that dont give off vibrations. I dont like white in clear water because it doesnt look real. Nothing a bass eats is solid white. JMO...

Of course they give off vibrations. The lateral line of the fish can detect them, itīs called hydrodynamic signature.

not like a spinnerbait or other bait that uses vibrations to attract bass...

What about white buzzbaits? I saw a bad Honeybuzz white buzzbait, and it looked killer!

Buzzbaits I keep simple-white when it is light, black in the dark.

I throw a white Horny Toad more than any other color-it just works.

For the Horny Toad I was thinking about a Watermelon/Pearl. I ordered some Horny imitations, Bully Frogs, from Barlows Tackle Express with Watermelon top and Pearl/White bottom. Hope it'll smack 'em!

For me white lures (cranks, buzz, spinners) have worked the best for me. I'm in Nashville, TN and the two lakes I go to one you can see about 4ft down and the other deeper one you can see about 10ft down in spots but mainly 6ft down.

By the way, I forgot to mention. Chartreuse white and Booyah's Limetreuse have been my top two buzzbait colors. I am plannig to pick up some limetreuse spinnerbaits this spring.

Default White braid

Back when we first started using the "braided line" it was called Spectre, and it was all white. Through the evolution of the braided line it started coming out in the different colors (mostly green). It only seemed like the natural thing to do was use the green. That's funny because we caught fish on the white line too!

Lunker, my old man got me started using white lures a long long time ago. His favorite lure was a #5 Mepps Aglia inline spinner with a silver blade. They didn't have our traditional spinnerbaits back then. He swore by his white Mepps and called it "Whitey". And believe me, he caught more fish than the rest of us most days, and it didn't matter what body of water we were fishing that day. I use many more lure styles and colors than my father did. However, I still carry a good assortment of white color lures in all styles, and do very well with them regardless of water, or weather conditions. I even catch many bass at night on white baits, something many others would scoff at.

i just think white is more like a slightly off colored baitfish than other colors.that slightly off color makes it look like something is wrong so the fish percieve it as weak and attack it.i also have a friend who uses the white braid so he can see it.he colors the line by the bait with a marker.
