There's a test that you can do that will tell you if your hooks are sharp enough, But I forget how it goes, You may just not be getting a good hook set, or be using stretchy line, but I always keep my line nice and tight for if I did not. To answer your question the only time I switch hooks is if I'm putting a red hook on my lure or if the hook is really dull.
