Different Buzzbait retrieve

Been playing with this technique off and on.......we all know that a buzzbait rises to the top but how many of us have tried fishing them in deep water on schooling bass off points? That's right....I have been throwing them out into about 12 feet of water and winding them after they hit bottom up through the bass.....that rising of the bait can sometimes get you some bites....it's a lil different than a spinnerbait cause you can't make a spinnerbait rise like a buzzer......got two today on it as a matter of fact.....just something to try when you are fun fishing!

Never tried that, but I have jigged them alongside trees with some success.

Actually I have used a buzzbait in a similar fasion. The lure I used was an Uncle Bucks Bucktail buzzer. It was very early after ice out and I knew despite the past three days having been unusually warm for that time of the year, the water was still fridged and would requier a slower approach. I was casting from shore in a shallow bay. I chose to take this inline bucktail buzzer and add a 3 inch yellow twister tail for a little more action. I cast it out as far as I could and let it sink till it touched down in about 8-10 feet of water. After touch down, I slowly reeled it back to shore so as to keep it crawling just above the lakes floor. My second cast resulted in a 5 1/2 pounder.

I've always used a "scatter" retrieve on the buzz baits, I throw it out and then about every 15 feet or so while reeling, I pull back hard on the rod to make the buzzbait skid and splatter on top of the water as the blade is turning, usually about 2-3 feet per pull. This was shown to me years ago on the river, it kind of looks like shad scattering as bass are working them...many times you'll get a strike after a few "scatters" ..give it a try!
