controlling boat
Hey i finally got a boat its not a fishing boat but its a boat. My girlfriends dad gave it to me, it is an older boat kinda like a ski boat but its not to bad fishing out of, its pretty basic and nice. Took it out for the first time today he hadnt used it in a couple of years and didnt even know if it still ran anymore, took it out and it ran beautifully! The only problem i really had was controlling it while trying to fish, the wind pushing me. I know that is what i trolling motor is for but im not sure if i can hook one up to this boat, do yall know if there is any way i can? Or do yall know anything else that might help control it, anything? Thanks -joshua

Can you post a picture of this boat? We couled all help out if you posted one. The words "this boat" could mean any boat in the world.
Oh, what do you consider a "fishing Boat"? Any boat that floats can be a fishing boat. There are no rules that says you can't fish out of a boat labeled as a "ski boat".

Does the boat have an anchor? I know that sounds like a stupid question, but you would be surprised how many people go out on the water without one.

well, if it's kind of like an old ski boat, you can always make a casting deck like people do with their jon boats. Just screw and glue a big piece of plywood reinforced with metal braces beneath it in the front of the boat with an extra piece of wood mounted under the front on whatever side the trolling motor needs to be attached. then bolt the trolling motor to it. wiring for most trolling motors is pretty simple so long as one follows the installation guide. other than that, i don't know what else to say.

Yeah guys, thanks for the responses.... I added a casting deck this morning, wasn't too bad and made an anchor out of a big cement brick and filled in the bottom hole with more cement and tied a rope to the other end. I think it will work pretty good! - Joshua

Better get 2 anchors to keep you from being blown around, trust me on this one. You can always mount a trolling motor, just depends on how much you have to build out the mount Lizards

jw-a word of warning about the casting deck. The added weight of the deck can make the boat nose heavy making it more succeptable to spearing a wave. It probably won't be an issue, but it is something to be aware of.

I've got a drift sock and they can really come in handy when it is windy.
Regarding the trolling motor-pretty much mandatory. It will allow you to move around or hold position in the wind without using the big engine.
