Your preference
Once the summer boat traffic slows down and the temperature drops back to the low 80's etc. and the fishing picks up from the summer heat. What do you prefer to do? Do you go to plastics and jigs for slower presentation or do you start crankbaiting and spinner baiting? I feel like i am missing out on good fishing as i tend to stick with plastics and jigs way too much year round.

If there's wind - spinnerbait. If not - jigs.

It depends on the settings for me...I throw all the above during the transition into fall.

Faster moving baits early and late, plastics/jigs during the middle of the day. Unless I see them chasing shad that is. Then it's lipless cranks and buzzbaits.

Up here the water temps have really dropped. we've had temps in the 30's at night, with day temps in the low sixties. Great football weather, went to the Packer, Bills game yesterday. Fish have been moving to the, 5'- 15' level. During the day Deeper water cranks and Jigs tipped with Money crawls have been working well. Late afternoons into evening spinnerbaits have been working. I guess they are going into the fall pattern. I did see that when you hit one, toss it back in the area, because they are in smaller groups already. Pretty soon they will head deeper and group up into larger groups in the 20 to 30 foot areas. These are smallies by the way. We do have LM, but not in the numbers that we do smallies. The LM that are in the local lakes are at around 10' of water and move into 2'-6' in the mornings and late afternoons. Jigs with kickers during the day and Spinnerbaits/ cranks early and late. The bigger LM are pretty much loaners and not in any groups like the smallies. Chart, pumpkin, brown, black and blue colors in all baits anytime. Watermellon, red flake during the days.

I like to start my day every day looking for shad shallow and throwin topwater as long as i see fish bustin the surface. When that slows down i pull out to secondary and primary points and throw deep diving cranks. If i see timber i slow roll spinners, chatterbaits, and swimbaits by. Then will move in close and toss wacky rig yum dingers... i will pitch and flip docks for spots...
