Bilge Pump Help

My tracker has a switch that is labeled bilge. I turn it on , and the bilge pump runs for about 3 seconds and shuts off. Is this normal ? I kinda think it is , but then again , maybe not because at first the light on the switch wouldnt come on , so I pulled each fuse , they were all good , then it worked as mentioned above.

Was it pumping water during those 3 seconds or running dry? I wonder if it has some sort of safety that shuts it off if no water is present?

Yes King , it was dry. I have a club tourney sunday , and its supposed to rain. I just wanted to make sure it worked. I wondered about some kind of safety shut off as well.

Heck....take a bucket of water and dump it in, and see if it keeps running. Good catch, 66.

If it is lie mine, it has a float sensor that automatically shuts it off if there isn't any water going through it. Do like 66 said, dump a bucket of water in it and check it. If it shuts off after the water is pumped out look down and see if you see a float. I am betting there is.

If it did not have a float you could burn it up. Voice of experiance here..

Yea and when they melt water comes in the boat..

Lol Capt...Im sure it wasnt funny to you. I put a 5 gal bucket of water in it with the switch on , it didnt kick on at first , after about a minute it kicked on and pumped the water out , then shut off. So , I did it again , same , after a delay it kicked on and sucked her dry. I am satisfied it works. Thanks all.
