Battery info needed

Was wondering,,new boat owner here,,,,i have 2 batteries,,one starts,,one runs my accessories...can i connect the accessory one to my starter one while motor is running to charge? that way i can charge it to keep trolling motor fresh when moving spot to spot,,Thanks

You really shouldn't have a problem depending on how you have your equipment hooked up. I run my electronics, GPS, lights, etc. off the cranking battery which charges when the big engine is running. The trolling motor runs off it's own set of batteries-deep cycle-and never have run them down except when fishing a lake where I can't run the big engine.

I guess you could rig up something to charge your trolling motor batteries but I really don't think you will have a problem.

If you don't have one I highly recommend getting an on board battery charger. They are really "set it and forget it". I plug it in when i get back from the lake and unplug it when I head back out. It charges and maintains the batteries so they are always ready to go, and they will not overcharge or fry your batteries.

Is oyur trolling motor a 12/24 volt? Or is it just a 12 volt? If it is a 12/24 volt you would be better off adding another battery. If not, 1 should last you all day as explained above. If it doesn't, you may need a new battery. Have it tested.

You could hook them together, but I wouldn't. Unless you connect and disconnect all the dern time, you'll constantly draw power from both batteries when yer trolling. You might never notice an issue until that one time you went too long, too far with the TM and now the big motor won't start!
Keep 'em separate. If you don't get enough run life from your existing TM battery, consider replacing it or adding another so you can troll into twilight and still start the big gun fer the ride back to the launch point.

Even if it is 12 volt you could add another battery and if your trolling battery dies you can hook it up.

Min Kota makes just what your looking for.

It charges from the motor running and it allows you to plug in at home and charge also.

Electronics and accessories run off the starting battery and the TM battery runs only the TM. I stand on a size 27 TM deep cycle all day (43lb TM) and it never runs low.
