Daiwa Bait Cast Reels
My son has several Team Daiwa TDX-103 Bait Cast reels. He wanted a new one for Christmas, but I discovered that Daiwa has completely changed their line of reels. Does anyone know what would be the equivalent or maybe one step up from the TDX-103 in their new line?
Thanks NEPiker |

The TDX-103, is a good reel and many people still use them. A reel that has sort of a similar profile, is the Daiwa Viento. If you don't mind the twitchen bar, they can be had at a very good price these days.

I never got the chance to use a TDX before they discontinued them here.
But I own or have used the Fuego, Sol, Viento, Zillion, and TD Advantage, and all are great reels. It really depends on what you want to spend on it. From what I've heard, the zillion won't handle lures quite as light as the TDX. But if you're willing to spend more on a JDM (japanese domestic market) reel, the TDZ is considered one of the best Daiwa reels. It's got great performance, even with lighter lures. The problem with the TDZ is that you'd be hard pressed to find a new one. Back on the subject of the TDX. Have you looked on eBay. You may still be able to find them. I'd say the Viento or Fuego would both make a decent replacement. The Fuego, like the zillion, performs much better with over 1/4oz lures. The Viento may be the way you want to go, figuring the Fuego has been discontinued as well. BB

I will pretty much echo what the other guys have said. The Zillion is probably the equal or next step up. I have one and absolutely love it. That said, it doesn't handle lighter baits as well as the TDX did.
The TD Advantage does handle light baits well and is very good reel. It is built on a wider frame than the Zillion, something to keep in mind if your son has small hands. If money isn't an issue, go with the Steez. It is Daiwa's top of the line lp baitcaster. It will do everything you could ask of a bass reel and do it in a stylish, light weight package. It isn't salt water safe though.

The Zillion would be the closest equivalent to the Super Tuned TDX.
