Questions about LUND boats.
Hi you all,
I hope you all dont get tired of me asking questions about boats. I was looking at Lund boats tonight on the net I was really likeing how the 1675 Explorer Sport. I noticed that they are not welded just riveted. How many of you have a lund boat or know someone that does. I am intrested in knowing how the riveted hulls hold up over time. I know I keep looking at alunium boats and the reason is I have found that they are a lot cheaper than a fiberglass boat. Thanks for your help and advice. |

I believe a riveted boat will pop or leak at rivets, before a wielded boat will lose its wield.
Both with age are at risk just one more so than the other. Where it was used determines a lot as to how long each lasts. How many guys here own a 1970s alum boat? |

Well, I have a Lund Jonboat and it's welded. I grew up fishing from Lund fishing boats when we vacationed in MInnesota on fishing trips, but never saw one leak. I have a friend who is a doctor who has fished from a Big Lund for many years, and his son has owned 2 Lunds, and I've never heard them mention any leakage problems. Lund makes a good boat.

My wife's family is from Duluth,MN and Keithdog is right. It seems that most all the boats are aluminum and a good portion of those are Lunds. I would guess they're doing something right.

If it says Lund you will pay top $ for it...but there is a reason. I have never been around a Lund that has ever had a leak. The lake I live by and grew up on is a Walleye lake, and Lund boats are everywhere. I believe that the next boat I buy will not be another glass boat, but a Lund Predator 1810 or 2010.

Is there any problems with them not being a welded hull?
Reason I am asking is because I plan on keeping this bot for several years, and want it to last. |

Quality control is the issue with either technique. A poor weld will let go before a good rivet and the other way around, too. A well made boat will last for years with proper upkeep no matter the way it's made.

If you go up North, there is one brand of boat you will see way more than others. Lund. There's a reason for that.
