Default Tournament Help

Got a small jackpot tourney today and its been raining/ cloudy all morning. Weather says it'll be cloudy with chance of light rain this evening(which is when the tourney is). So any tips for fishing on a rainy day? Or do I fish 'em like normal?

What kind of lake is it?

In my experience, slightly rainy conditions make for some great fishing, if you can handle getting a little wet. Just don't try anything too "finesse". Mid-level crankbaits and spinnerbaits would be my guess, though a dropshot seems like an "any weather" kind of approach.

reaction baits, spinnerbait would be a good idea.I caught my biggest spinnerbait fish(6lbs 11oz) when it was pouring down rain

Power fish. Low light and chance of rain should get the fish roaming a little instead of shaded up. They should be more agressive if you've had a stretch of hot bright sun. I'd keep my foot on the trolling motor looking for agressive fish in weather like you describe. Then slow down when you start getting action. Don't get me wrong, not all the fish in the lake will be roaming but a bigger percentage than normal will be with the weather you describe provided that the weather you describe is unusual. I'd "get on my horse" in weather like that. I would not camp in one spot and try to force feed the fish like you might do when the sun is high and hot.

Buzzbait, spinnerbait (if you've got some wind), jig, 10 inch worm, Sweet Beaver (or reasonable facsimilie) all dark(er) colors like June bug, blue/black, chartruese, green pumpkin (clear water) would be my choices.

you dont need wind though,in texas they dont care about it,i caught a 7lber on a buzzbait with no wind,so dont let the keep you away from a lure

If the wind is an issue try hitting points with cranks and fish the outer edge of coves where the waves are moving into it...if it's windy enough the baitfish usually get pushed into these areas and the bass are not too far away

will what lake are you fishing? i know on grand the best thing going right now is deep diving crankbaits, jigs, and big worms on points that have bait fish. if you don't see bait fish on the point then you need to move on to another one.

Thanks again to everyone! I guess it was just a slow day yesterday, I caught 3 that didnt make the length on crankbaits in coves. It was really windy and just a slow day overall. I wouldn't have caught what I did if it weren't for you guys advice.

Ok guys, I need some help too. I have a tourney on Saturday on a small 80 acre lake by my house. The water is up high (flooded) and murky, so there is a lot of flooded brush up by shore. We nomally catch a lot of fish in this lake on senkos by this brush or the weeds up by shore. There are a couple potential deep water jig/t-rigged worm spots. For example there is a small weed bed close to a small drop off in about 10-12 FOW where we killed the bass last summer, but I haven't fished that spot yet this year. So, any suggestions? Oh BTW the weather is supposed to be cloudy with a chance of rain. Thanks guys

im guessin you guys are postspawn up in wisconsian, but whats the water temperature

the answer to that will help but i would personally go fish drop off with a big worm, jig, or if its slow a shaky head

but if you are comfortable or think you can get em go flippin and pitchin with creature baits up shallow....

but that place you decribed sounds like it might still hold fish, but if you dont catch a fish in the first hour dont remember how good it was last but move on

(this is for WIbassmaster)

I personally havent been on the lake in a couple weeks even though it is my home lake lol but I would guess the temp would be mid to low 70s. Im thinking senkos and pitching n flippin in the morn to start and go out deep after I have caught some fish in the morning to see if I can get a kicker fish.

Start shallow in the flooded bushes. Use dark baits (June bug, blue/black etc.) jig and pig, 10" worm, beavers. Take a look at how Tommy Biffle won his last BASS tourney in very similar conditions if you can find it. He was pitching a Sweet Beaver (blue/black or black neon, I think) into flooded bushes in off colored stained water. I can't remember the lake but the show aired last weekend on ESPN.
