Default Lipless Crankbait vs. Lipped Crankbait

Is there a clear cut winner? I've never used lipless... although I do have one.. Rapala...

I watched a fishing show and the guys was using a lipless one and said he never leaves home w/o it!

Am I missing out? Please fill me in...

Thank You... be patient with me

Welcome to the forum!

Different tools for different jobs. Lipless are great search baits, and in the spring and fall it is tough to beat a chrome/blue back Rat-L-Trap. I also love to throw them parallel to a weedline. Lipped cranks are great when you are fishing where they will hit something-the bottom, rocks, stumps etc. When they hit something they bounce off with some erratic action which triggers the strike. I have two crankbait rods rigged up at all times-one with a lipped bait, one with a lipless bait. I don't head for the lake without either one.

Also, lipless crankbaits are fantastic wind baits. They mimic baitfish and you can chunk them into the teeth of a strong wind with very little difficulty since they are flat and offer little wind resistance.

The guy on TV who said he doesn't leave home without it is probably speaking for most anglers. Lipless crankbaits are a basic lure type which is probably owned by virtually all fishermen.

As to lipped vs. lipless, there is no winner, because these are two types of lures.
