XCalibur Xr50 by far. Definitely my most used lipless crank. Specifically the Pearl Melon color. Grabbed a couple of the bluegill series ones the other day to try out.
Spro Aruku isn't bad, neither are the Lucky Craft ones. Got a few Rat-L-Traps too. BB

The XCalibur Xr50 and Xr25 are 2 of my favorites also. I like both the rattle and one knocker versions. Another great lipless bait is the Strike King RedEye Shad. They have a great action, especially on the fall. I've also caught a ton of fish on Academy's H2O lipless crankbaits. I fish Rapala's, Lucky Craft and Spro Aruku Shad lipless baits but by far, the XCalibur, Strike King and H2O's are my go to lipless crankbaits.

I'm going to chime in for the Xcaliber Xr50 as well, along with Strike Kings Red Eye Shad. Both perform very well and are fairly priced. No doubt the LC lipless cranks perform just as well, but at twice the price. I can't see paying that much for a lipless crank.

I agree mostly with Joe & Anthony (pearl melon is a GOOD color). Xcalibur (Xr-50 & One Knocker) are the best in my book for general purpose. I like the Red Eye Shad for a yo-yo presentation, they have a great flutter on the fall. Like everyone else I started with the Bill Lewis trap, but they needed a hook upgrade prior to use. I own a "few" Lucky Craft baits but am not particularly fond of the lipless LV series, they do not produce for me in a similiar way as my two favorites. I bought some of the H2O a few weeks ago and will try them this spring. Academy has some nice lures that seem to work for most that use them and you can't beat their price.
These are what I have in my boat... 1st row (facing left): Xcalibur 2nd row (facing right): Red Eye Shad & Lucky Craft 3rd row (facing left): Diawa (left), 2 YoZuri (middle), Rapala (right) 4th row (facing right) Academy H20 (left) Live Target (middle) 2 Rattletraps (right) - I forgot I still had those two. I carry far less on my kayak as space IS LIMITED. I also limited myself to only Xcalibur & the Red Eye Shad for the kayak bag. I think there are 6 Xcalibur and 4 Red Eyes in there which I didn't bother digging out for the picture. Last edited by bassboogieman; 01-12-13 at 12:07 PM. |

My favorite brand is Strike King Red Eye Shad. Might just be me but I catch most of my lipless crankbait bass on it.

Rat-L-Traps and Red Eye Shads. When using a Trap I ALWAYS change the stock hooks. The hooks that come on a Trap are about as sharp as a Q-tip. I keep the same size hooks. I prefer VMC Vandium cone cut hooks. They are sharp enough to stick you ust looking at them.

I'm a huge fan of Aruku Shads.
Green Shiner is the best color for me

Most of mine are Rattle Traps, followed by Red Eyes and a few Cordells. Lately I've been picking up some Xcaliber and I like them A LOT!

Yo-zuri Hardcore Drum in Padilla's Nightmare (custom color)
Getting more and more difficult to find these baits. Yo-zuri doesn't make them any more or at least I don't think they do. I may be wrong. |

You can order them from Yo-Zuri, BPS and Cabela's list them, but don't sell them anymore. I think Gander Mtn's site still has them too. BB

I've had the best luck on the original Rat-L-trap.
Got some Koppers and Strike king ones last season, but the lipless crank bit turned off after the season opened, so didn't get a chance to fish much.
