rock bass
i just started fishing a place where there is tons of good sized rock bass. i was trying to catch some smallmouth and largemouth on 4 and 5 inch senkos, but i caught a few rockbass, in the evening, and some smallmouth and largemouth at night on topwater. so now i want to fish for rockbass, during sunlight hours, and as soon as the sun goes down, catch the nice ones, but what is good for rockbass? i had tons of bites from them, but they wouldn't get hooked, because the senkos was so big.

Fly poppers will get them too. Rock bass will bunch up a lot and you can catch 3-4 from the same spot a lot of times.

yeah, crappie jigs would be the way to go. try small 1/8 or 1/4 ounce ones in different colors, fish them on a 6' medium action graphite spinning rod with 6lb clear mono. let the bass take it and sweep set the hook, there isnt a need for a huge hookset,so set lightly.

I have a lure combo I use for rock bass that seems to work great. It is a No. 2 Mepps squirreltail spinner with silver Aglia blade, tipped with a 2 inch plastic redworm hanging off the hook. They can't resist it. I caught a 2 pound 2 oz. rockbass off that combo in Minnesota on Big Thunder Lake. They were tearing it up. Sandy soil around some shallow reedbeds.

a bobber and splitshot rig with a small hook and corn right out of the can works. Also, what's better yet is the Creme Lures Angler Worm, which is a pre-rigged worm about 3" long, pink/natural color works the best.

ive caught the majority of my rock bass on a small mepps #1 - #2 spinner or trolling walleye spinners up north. both have spinners involved, try that.
rock bass are my favorite fish, they are small, but dang cool looking |
