My wife got slapped around......by the monkey
Britney is my tournament partner this year and she is starting to get a first hand experience with the monkey. Normally I don't post threads about the tackle I buy, mainly because I am just too lazy. But since this trip to Bass Pro was mostly about Britney, I thought I would post about it. She usually just uses my rods and reels but since we will be tourney fishing I wanted her to have some rods and reels of her own so we won't have to share. She needed a few more reels to fill out her arsenal (I have several rods in the garage that she can use), so we picked her up 3 Pro Qualifiers. She also needed a good rainsuit so we looked for hours trying to find her a good rainsuit that would actually fit her. I wanted her to get a Pro Qualifier rainsuit like mine because I know how warm and dry it keeps me and I didn't have any experience with any other suits there so I wasn't sure how good they were. Problem was trying to find a rainsuit that would fit her, since she is a small thing and most rainsuits only came in mediums or bigger. We finally settled on the Bone Dry suit because it was the only rainsuit that looked to be quality that would fit her. I needed a new pair of good sunglasses because my Oakleys are getting worn out after 9 years lol. So I picked up a pair of Costa Del Mar Man O Wars for myself. I haven't put them to use looking for beds yet but I can say that they are probably the lightes sunglasses I have ever worn and they are very high quality lenses that give good color contrast and clear vision. It was an expensive trip but we had fun and now Britney has a few rods and reels of her own now. We spooled them up lastnight and had some pitching and flipping practice in the living room after Lake went to bed.

Looks like a very fruitful trip! Do you have a dog? I know one of mine loves to chase a jig (with hook cut off) when playing around pitching in the house and yard.

WOW!! What a shopping trip. Good choice on the PQ Tournament Reels. They are the best bang for your buck! Hope you both have a good year fishing.

But I am sure Lake will chase a jig if I cut the hook off of it haha. Once Lake gets a little older we will do the puppy thing again. |

The Pro Qualifier is a good reel. She uses my Revos all the time, but I didn't really want to buy a bunch of Revo SX's and Winch's for her incase she ends up not fishing much so the Pro Qualifier seemed to fit the bill. We just went to the reel department and I turned her loose and told her to find 3 or 4 reels that feel right to her and let me know when she had them picked out. After she had it narrowed down a bit I explained to her what she would or wouldn't like about each one and she decided that the Pro Qualifier was what she wanted. We went with the Pro Qualifier Tournament series reel because it was "pretty" haha. Seriously I didn't see any reason why it wouldn't be just as good for her as the silver Pro Qualifier and the Tournament Series Pro Qualifier was a little lighter and smaller which should fit her perfect. It only has an 8lb drag but considering that she is going to be using braid on most of them that is fine too because it will help keep her from ripping the guts out of them.

Looks like you had a great trip! What lens did you get with the Costa's, the green or blue?

The PQ Tournament's have higher end components than the Silver PQ's. They have the Duralumin gears that the JM Gold reels have, and also have the Duralumin crankshaft and worm gear. I own 16 of them, and have beat on mine for about a year now, and they are still buttery smooth. Keep up with maintenance on them and they will peform great for years to come!
It won't be long and you'll be going to buy tackle for yourself, Britney, and Lake. I hope you two have a good season this year! Best of Luck! Ryan
