Default This is going to sound Stupid but....Get to the Gym

One tip I am going to give the members on here is to get in the best physical shape you can before the upcomming fishing season. It might sound funny but fishing is a sport and you have to be in shape to fish the long hours esp. if you are a tournament angler. I recommend you get to the weight room and do squats and forearm and wrist exercises. You will have longer casts, better hooksetting power and more fishing stamina. I really worked out last winter for baseball and it really also showed in my fishing also. It's hard to believe but it did. Guys like Mike Ike are actually in good shape and work out when they are not fishing and the G man. Get to it.

that's some good advice, fishie. i notice the same results especially in my cast length and the amount of time i can stay out on the water. when i'm in good shape i don't get tired nearly as quickly.

I don't care who ya are, that's funny. my trips are 2 sometimes 3 times longer than a tourney. if a tourney angler is getting tired at the end of a tourney, he has more to worry about that catching fish.

Good advice, if you are old or fat. Last summer I fished several days 18 hours plus. I havent worked in a gym for over a year.

if you have trouble fishing 15 + hours a day for a few days because you arent fit enough... i guess you should get fit. but seriously?? any person with decent fitness wouldnt need to spend time in the gym so he can fish. you dont need to be lance armstrong to fish a tournament.

I'm almost 53 years old so I guess that is old. I am somewhat overweight also. If I could I would fish from sun up to sun down. I did that quite a few times last year. I would do it a lot more if I could but there is work and the girlfriend. She likes to fish but maybe only for 3 or 4 hours. She cannot understand why I spend so many hours fishing. If I ever hit the lottery I would be fishing a whole lot more and I am sure she wouldn't mind because she would be spending all the money. lol. Any way I have started to work out with the weights and treadmill. I was outside after work practicing casting and if the weather stays nice this week I might get out thursday and friday. here in Pa it's going to be in the 50's the rest of the week. I have some proir things to sttend to tonight and tomorrow. I hope it stays nice.

get some more weight. Crunches are the main exercise I believe cause it helps you stand for long periods.

Really? If I am out all day fishing a crankbait I can get tired. Maybe it's the equipment?

Running a 4.45 40 and benching 350 does not catch bass. Everybody knows the number of bass you catch depends on what shoe brand you wear, what truck you drive and how many horses push your boat. Under Armor also helps.

Seriously, I use fishing to stay in shape. If you wanna be in good shape for the next 6 or 7 hour tourney, then each time you prefish stay out longer - say 12-14 hours. This summer I think I'm gonna do some 24 hour stints for the hell of it, I already got really close last year and wasn't feeling the wear (I think my longest day started around 2 in the afternoon, and ended at noon the next day). That way I got to fish the peak times of the evening, midnight and morning bites.

last i checked i was 6'5'' 340 pounds. can bench well over 300 and curl 325-the average weight of an 3.5''x8''x168'' oak beam- same thing i pick up by hand all day long. so while your over joining the jane fonda club fer girlie guys.
i shall sit at a table and make sure the double whopper with chesse does not make a last second break for it while i am killing a liter of mountain dew-sounds a tad like a toilet flushing- burrrrrrrrrpppppp!!!!!

fish don't care how strong you are, or how pretty your are,or how bald you are -- you are the top of the food chain. that is all that matters to them...
