Welcome to the forum!

They may very well be bass, but depending on your location they may be spawning, and not actively feeding. I once spent 2 hours trying to get one like that to bite and no luck. Sometimes they just won't bite. On the plus side they don't all spawn at the same time. Try deeper water with spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits and soft plastics that look like shad like a Zoom Super fluke.

If you put where you are in your profile it will help, and you will probably find somebody in your area that can help with tactics and baits.

Very dirty water-that's one of those relative terms . If it doesn't look like chocolate milk I use natural colors-pumpkin, green pumpkin and watermelon but with some chartreuse added, either as part of the bait, i.e. green pumpkin with a chartreuse tail, or dye the tail chartreuse using something like Spike-It worm dye. You want to make your bait more visible.

If it does look like chocolate milk I decide based on sky conditions. If it is sunny bright lures-chartreuse, merthiolate, lemon/lime swirl, sherbert-you get the idea. If it is cloudy I go back to natural colors.

I don't know what you're seeing, but I wouldn't rule out carp. I've mistaken them for bass before and I've been fishing 38 years. The murky water doesn't help either as far as distinguishing one from the other, as in the water they have similar body shapes.

For me, schools of 4# bass would be heaven.

in ruling out the fish as bass if they are beating up the banks and running right on bottom leaving mud trails (if the bottom permits) they are definently carp.....investing in fishing glasses helps out a lot in identifying fish also

yes. smaller bass will school but larger bass will stay mostly to themselves, and by the way you described the pond it seems like there should be plenty of carp in there..

Best way to catch a carp is a arrow through the shoulders. Or a doughball..... Those don't sound like bass to me, but they could be.....If you still think they're bass, try a texas rigged, 7 inch worm in junebug, watermelon, or pumpkinseed.
