Hooked?
have you been hooked? If so then tell how long you had been fishing before you got hooked and where? Thought this might be fun.

I was probably 12 when my dad rared back with his dipsy diver and went for a long cast. My account of the event is that he set the hook in my scalp. He will tell you it fell right out. I thought it was funny as all get up.

I took a Rooster Tail treble in the finger when I was about 5. I managed to sink it past the barb before i knew what was happening, it was dark and I jerked my hand away impaling myself deeply. I remember my Dad pushing the hook further in to get past the barb. He snipped the barb off and pulled it back out. Good times.

I was out with a buddy fishing East Harbor breakwall for largemouth, and fish were busting shad everywhere. We started smoking them on crankbaits, and I made another cast to the point and caught a short 12" fish. The back hook of the crankbait was in the top of the fishes mouth and the bait was haning out of it's mouth. I went to grab him over the back and he shook, resulting in the hook going into my hand, and going past the barb. It went in and curved at an angle. I hollered at my partner in the front of the boat and said, "you want to give me a hand, I'm sort of attached to my rod here"... .... Long story short, he started jerkin on that hook, and I had some words for him. Ryan

Been hooked a couple times...nothing my fault as of yet.
Caught a spinnerbait in the ear when I was about 7. My dad, his buddy and I were fishing from a relatively small craft. Dad got a little too carried away. I lost my hat out of the deal too! Just last year a friend of mine was learning Spook fishing. He had a fish swipe at it near the boat and he set the hook....and missed. Well, the bait SLAMMED into my chest, and the rear hook lodged. He has since figured out that spooks are not jigs. |

Well I have told my friend before, you DONT have to set the hook with crankbaits. He doesnt listen. he had a fish come slam his crankbait and he pulled. that crankbait (which had VMC's) comes flying and hits my thigh. It went through a pair of 2 layer shorts and into my skin. Luckily it only went past the first layer of skin so it didnt hurt real bad. Still dont want it to happen again though. BTW it was not Ryan who did it.

I've hooked my fingers past the barb many times and I always seem to forget the "line trick" so I end up jerking it out with pliers. I'll have to carry a little instructional booklet with me from now on. The worst part is when you feel and hear that barb digging around as you pull it out. yuck.

I hooked myself with a devil's horse a few years back. I missed the fish and somehow caught it in the back of my leg. I had to push it through and cut the barb off. Since then i've learned to wait a second before setting the hook when top water fishing.

Hooked myself in the back with a small aberdeen hook when I was about 6, but yanked it real deep. My mom froze it up with an ice cube and cut it out with a straight razor. Left about a 1/4 inch barely visible scar right underneath my right shoulder blade.

Caught a smallie on a RICO in a canoe. Tried to unhook the fish and it began flopping around. Hook caught me in the belly button but lucky that the rock hard 6-pack kept it from penetrating . Almost gave me a belly button ring.

Back when I was young my cousin and I went out in the old rowboat. We were sitting on opposite ends of the boat back to back. My cousin makes a cast behind him and hooks me in the ear. We didn't have a knife with us and his hook was tied to his sinker. He unsnapped the swivel and hanging from my ear was the sinker. Back at the cabin my dad said I had two choices. Either go to the hospital or push it through my ear and snip off the barb. We didn't go to the hospital.
