Default Water Levels

What do bass do when the water rises because of rain. When the water is low?

After it rains, streams and creeks rise, thus dislodging food items like bugs, crustaceans, crawdads, etc. from rocks and logs in the stream. When the stream flows into the lake, so do the dislodged food items, therefore baitfish will congregate to this area to feed, in turn attracting bass.

On the contrary, when the water is low and it has not rained for a while, all food from the streams has been either eaten or covered in muck. When this happens bass will move deeper in search of food and to get out of the shallows(which warm much quicker when the water is low).

So, as a basic rule of thumb, fish deeper when the water is low, and shallower when the water is high.

Follow the water. Rising water go to the shore. Falling water back-off.

is will work most every where.. but not on the yadkin chain.. it is VERY rare when this rule works here.. fishing fluctuating water can be a frustrating thing one day there at one place and the next day it's dry..

same baits work in the same area the fish just move out to the next deeper struture..
