Default What are some good "floating" shallow crankbaits?

Ya know, cranks that when you stop reeling they float back up to the top. Made of balsa. Anyone know any good brands of these? Preferably some that come in a red craw color.

Are you looking for floating baits, or balsa baits? There are tons of good floating shallow crankbaits, not many of them are made of balsa though.

Floating shallow cranks... I just prefer balsa.

Just to name a few, the Strike King KVD Square Bill, Xcaliber Xcs Square Bill, Bandit 100, Lucky Craft Rick Clunn models, Norman Baby N and Little N, and Rapala DT Fat are my favorite cranks out there. All float at rest, but none of those are Balsa except the Rapala DT Fat. That one is made of Balsa. There really arn't many made of Balsa anymore. A company called Poes made cranks from ceder and are very good cranks if you can find them. Also, if you wish to try it, you can make your own balsa cranks. Lurepartsonline.com offers preformed balsa crankbait bodies ready for assembly.

Yeah, I think most shallow cranks you pick up are going to float... I personally don't know of any that sink of suspend.

Bagley still makes balsa baits. Lee Sisson also makes them (surprised?) How shallow you looking for? 4-6'? Couple custom guys still make them. How much you looking to spend?

Check out Bagley's new site

Or take a look at these baits for sale

manns 1 minus goes about a foot down. manns Eliete walker goes about 1/4 inch. search for wake baits if you want to go shallow. They also have the red claw you are looking for.

I'm not sure about balsa lures. I use Daiwa Peanut II (my favorite, but change the hooks) and Manns baby one minus.

If you don't catch fish on a Rapala sr5 on 6lb test maybe consider golf instead.
