Swimbait Thoughts
I just wanted to mention to those interested in swimbaits that the saltwater section of your local store may be a cheaper/better alternative to traditional freshwater swimbaits. H&H lures has a large variety of lures that are popular in the south and work well for large mouth bass. Growing up I used these baits for speckle trout and redfish, but recently began throwing them with great success for bass. I simply use a 1/4oz jig head and make sure that the bait is rigged as straight as possible. I have also started using my cordless dremel tool to remove some of the body, which gives the bait more tail action. This has been working really well in muddy water conditions. I'll try to post some pics of the baits I have been playing with. H&H cocahoes are awesome in shad and chart. colors.

hummmm thats a good idea..... i guess i might have to buy some saltwater swimbaits next time i near the coast..... when you say you take some of the body off do you mean you make the part that connects the tail to the body skinnier?

Ive been using 6" Tsunami's. Salt water section of wally world. They out fish any other swimbait Ive purchased. Storm swim baits are a close second. Their tail action is a little slower.

I hold the bait in my hand and wiggle the tail to see how much action the lure has. If the tail does not have enough movement I remove a small wedge of plastic from the pivot area to increase side to side movement. I also like adding the spinner in muddy water condions. Let me know if you guys/gals have any luck with this or figure anything out.

Interesting idea. How much are you taking off? Do you have a before and after of one of the modified baits? Thanks. Also, while we're on the topic, how much action is lost if you trim down the front of a swimbait to make it a little shorter?

I have never tried trimming down the front, but would be willing to try it. I'll take some pics of a couple baits I trimmed down and post them up. It doesn't take much to get more action from the tail, just a tiny wedge from each side. A hobby knife with a sharp knife gets the job done as well.
