Default good targets for pitch or flipping

I practiced my pitching and flipping this morning, and I was wondering what to use as targets???????went into the garage and drew a blank...then it hit me to
use old music cd's or dvd's..so I got 4 of them and put them at diff. measurments 7ft - about 12ft and made about 75 pitches a few flips, but I think I like pitching better.Jb showed me how by holding the Jig in you hand release it
let it swing like a pendulm as it loads up and control the spool with the thumb...
I really like it a lot it was fun and relaxing as that may sound.Well I just wanted to throw that out there OOHHH yeah by the way I will be getting a baitcaster
sometime...saving for vacation now...but later
Good fishing
Denny

I like to use a small bowl for pitchin and flippin. When its raining and I'm just itching to go outside, I stand about two steps up on my stairs and put the bowl as far away from me as I can.

Use a cool whip bowl and fill 3/4 of it with water. Stand on something about as high as a boat is off the water. Try flipping into it without any water running out. This not only improves accuracy but quietness as well.

I always used a coffee can, but I like to cool whip bowl full of water. If you fish off a boat stand on a stepladder to approximate the height above the water. Your neighbors might think you are nuts, though-unless they are bass fishermen. They know exactly what you are doing .

Denny-when I lived in an apartment I used to check the action of lures by throwing them in the swimming pool. I got a LOT of strange looks and enjoyed them thinking I was nuts, which I am . There was one guy that didn't-naturally he was a fellow bass fisherman .

Pitching at targets on the ground is necessary, but i think that pitching between and behind objects is as well. In timber, you sometimes have to pitch behind the object to get to the shady spot, or pitch through a 6" gap between trees. I like put a couple boxes 6" apart and practice. Pretty much any free standing object is good to practice "swinging" the bait behind it.

I use a small spot in our back yard where we had a tree die and therre is no grass. as for pitching around and over stuff, I use a small bush.

Talking Indoors.

For me, the best way to learn to flip and pitch is inside the house. There are lots of targets in your house that are very similar to what you'll encounter on the water. I used to stand in front of the TV and watch a program and pitch and flip for hours. Pitch under a chair or a table or when you get really good, under the couch (same thing you'll be doing when dock fishing or fishing up under a bush). Pitch between a crevice where the couch and table set. Flip it next to a flower pot or into the flower pot. If you have cats in the house, they can be a gas and they will teach you alot about fish behavior. Watch how sometimes they want it slow, fast or sometimes they want it dead sticked (sitting still) just like a fish. Pitch to a spot on the rug or up on a sofa. Take a couple of bass jigs and grind the hook off of them to practice with.

A funny story: I was out in the yard pitching one day when a Mississippi Kite (a gray hawk like bird) swooped down and picked up a jig I was pitching and flew off with it. I jerked it away from him and let him settle on the power line and he did it again. I called my wife and son out and let them do it and he picked the jig up and flew off with it for both of them before giving up the game and moving on to something more edible. Believe it or nuts!!!!!

I use a sewing needle stuck into a short piece of wood for a target. A good cast will get the lure to balance on top of the needle.

RotfLMAO! Now if you can just get that baby to land softly and balance on Mrs. Hawgjaw's nose, you just might have it nailed!

dad used to smear honey on a board and put it leaned up on the fence, then about 45 degrees to the left was a thimble. we had to learn to bounce the jig off the flys back that were feeding on the honey,
and still hit the thimble ..with no splash...or out came the belt!

I found it really helpful to stand on some stairs about 1 to 2 feet of the ground and flip at some small targets at different lengths.
