the football as opposed to?
in what situations do i need to be throwing a football style head? in my past tournament experiences using a "football" style jig it never seemed to perform as well as i thought it should or as well as a regular jig. Can anyone explain some scenarios where a football jig would more than likely be the better choice? when should i be using it? thanks

I use them 95% of the time...and hardly ever fish rocks or open water.

1) seems to be a more vertical fall.
2) you can pull just a little slack up and the jig will rock up, making the trailer raise up like a craw on the defense. 3) doesn't wedge tight, so if feel yourself getting wedged in a fork, you can lower rod tip to give it slack, then pop your rod tip up high. This usually frees it. 4) doesn't layover on it's side when resting on the bottom.

I think you mis-read...when did i say regular jigs were bad. I was asked why i use football's most...not why i didn't use the others. And besides that...exactly what are you calling "normal", they're are many, many head designs out there.

I use normal jigs most of the time. I'll use football jigs around rock and in the structureless man made above ground reservoirs here.

I've been doing it for years...and you can bet that most people don't throw 'em. (Doc and Lowrider...it don't work at Monticello )

like everyone else has said rock bottom and structureless bottoms is where you want to use football jigs. Remember to hold the rod off to the side and set the hook to the side as well.

Why do you recommend that? Is that the way it is meant to be fished or is that just the way you prefer?

the reason you do so is so you will be able to differentiate between everything that you are running into on the bottom. I learned this from Tim Horton. Setting the hook off to the side I have to do some research on it (looking back at my source). I want to be able to tell you the proper reason to do such I'll post back asap

The reason you want to do so is for better hook sets. If you set the hook straight up you throw slack in your line. by setting the hook to the side there is no slack in your line and you land more fish.

C-rig, Ask zooker, he's posted videos on here before. I'd help if I knew how, but I just know how to do pictures.

Use a football jig rocks and hard bottom. Try not to use them around brush, and weeds.
Good luck to ya!
