Texposer?.....Widegap?
Now is the only difference the rear hook bend (texpose-square, widegap-curved) or are there other differences?
I always assumed when people talked texposer they were talking of skin hooking plastics weedless as opposed to hook slots or deeper hook penatration. I guess they are really talking about a different hook entirely. The gap seems a little smaller but wider than straight shank. I can see the texposed hook maybe better for like a thin swim bait. But when else? Anyone have a technique they use that works alot better with a texpose hook or maybe use texposer types exclusively?

Are you talking about these Texposer Hooks from Lunker City?
They were discontinued from Bass Pro Shops, but they still have Reviews available. I hadn't seen them before, but looks similar to the EWG except for the differences you mentioned. From the reviews I read on BPS, it seems people like the Texposer hooks for Sluggos. I can't help but wonder if the sharp bend in the hooks make them more susceptible to breaking; that was one complaint in the BPS reviews. Last edited by IowaBasser; 01-12-12 at 10:55 AM. |

When people talk about "texposing" they are talking about a way to rig a soft plastic bait. I wasn't even aware there was a texposer hook. Just about any hook can be used to texpose a bait.

I became aware of them from some place on web. Didn't talk brand but the picture shown was exactly like IowaBasser's post.

Iowa, my neighbor, ya that looks real similar except a little more gap on the one the guy pictured.
The article wasn't pitching the hooks, fact they were barely mentioned. They were pictured with all the different hooks that a person may find helpful for bass fishing.

Yep you are correct: Texposed or Texposing = "weedless". Hook does not come into play or matter. It simply means that you are rigging a Texas-rigged plastic bait to be weedless. I prefer wide Gamakatsu gap hooks most of the time anyway.
Watch this video that Kevin made with his Massive 12" worm... and you will understand. LoL! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h-GD2QP5hw . Last edited by Ranger Guy; 01-18-12 at 03:00 PM. |
