Default Secret baits - part 2.

Anyone ready for some more "secret baits" ?

I have another bait drawing for someone to post if possible.

I originally made this bait mod. about 12-15 years ago..........for weedless applications.

Works wonderful and never seems to get hung up even in brush piles.

It's possible this has been seen/made before but I sure not have seen it used anywhere around me.

I'll need to send this pic to someone so they can post it if possible.

Shoot me an email if you can post this drawing if you want to.

This is another modified bait..........

Mariner has it.........

This bait is simple to make and works very well in heavy cover......you'll see why.

I use it flippin, pitchin, crankin, yo-yo, skipping under docks.........heavy mill foil grass and brush piles.

I trust it to get in and get out without getting hung if rigged properly.

If lure stops while in heavy cover of any type, just let it fall and try again.........it either comes out or a fish inhales it.

I used to love to rip it accross heavy grass and let it fall down in it..........killer bait.

Mariner, thank you !

Do you like the looks of it ?

I was afraid my drawing/email pic would not work.

Explanation:

Front is a 1/2 oz. cordell of course...(I use them almost 100%).....rear is a soft minnow with "swim tail" of your choice medium size or small works well.

The yum shad or something similar would work perfectly.

The hook used can be a worm hook of comparible size to soft minnow and needs to be rigged like a worm on offset of worm hook or super glued to straight hook. (I would super glue all soft baits on the hook).

This rig is an amazing bait under water and looks like 2 minnows chasing one another in fear of their life.........

The cordell lure rattles like crazy and the rear "piggy back" swimming minnow adds an extra effect to the tail action.

They both swim like crazy and will be 99 % weedless even flipped in brush piles.

The rear hook will pop through the soft minnow easily on hook set.

Of course this is a bait you can modify the modification.........simply be changing the rear minnow with your choice of soft bait and experiment with it a bit.

Years ago we tried most soft baits on it and the minnow or big tail grub gave this bait the best action.

With this bait you get rattle/noise with wiggle and a soft bite on the rear for the bass.

I would reccomend you use a good size sharp hook so your hook set will easily punch through the soft bait.

Don't discount this lure as being just another lure..........I have caught many pounds of fish with it in some really congested/thick areas of the lake..........the rattle is a bonus with this lure.........and as I said, the wiggle on the minnow looks as though there are 2 shads running......I yo-yo them in and around docks too.

I looked at my bait and I actually used a smaller size minnow on the rear. I think it's about a 1-1/2 inch.

It worked really well and you don't have to mess up a good bait either just remove hooks.

White, black back works for me...........with a white/pearl black back soft minnow.

Whats amazing about this bait is it runs perfectly even with a piggy back minnow in the rear.........

My secret bait is a 10 to 12 inch snake. Out here in San Diego, we only really see the rattlers, so I always go with brown. The only secret that I will add is to rig the line through a soft frog. Nothing fancy on the frog part. I have ben using a bag of the cheaper ones I got at walmart. Because I do it often, I have carry a large sewing needle in my tackle box and use it to feed the line through the frog. I usually set the frog about three to five inches ahead of the frog. I cost onto top of the tullies, pads, shore, etc.... I bring them into the water slowly then reel like crazy. It give the appearance of a snake chasing a frog. I admit that there are times where the frog gets hit instead of the frog, but this has generated the biggest bass for me. In the heat of the day, this has been great for those hogs seeking shade. This has generated a dozen over the 6 lbs mark and two over ten this year.

Yes ! And you live where the extra big ones live I hear.

That is a good tip/secret.

It's funny how bass take advantage of animals/creatures that are trying to get a meal...........

This prey on prey on prey method really works.

I have been using the berkley 10 inch power worms and mann hard nose snakes. I think the Mann lookes more like a snake, but the fish don't really mind either. I think the Mann works a lot better off off lilly pads. Usually I will twitch the head on the water for a few seconds then let him fall in. I get strikes on the inital fall that way.

Yes Robbie, we have quite a few giants out here. I consider myself a decnet fisherman and know how to land a hog, but I have seen my 20lbs braid snapped a twice on the initial hits with frogs. I move out here from VA and have caught more 10lbs+ here in less time than I ever got at Smith Mountain.

Well, they have the video of the world record breaker here in Lake Dixon. The guy had foul hooked it and released after the photos and videos. I am fishing Dixon on Saturday and can't wait. There are some beasts out here and I intend to drown many a worm and beer in an attempt to land one.
Yes I miss the mountains, but this is home now.....at least that is what the wife says

pencil soldering iron....Wal Mart automotive, under 5 dollars.

Pack of Culprit 7.5 inch worms or larger....

Pack of zoom lizards....

Cut the lizard heads off and weld them on the front end of the worms....heating both surfaces to be joined at the same time. These make fine looking snakes with an excellent action.

About the headless lizards, use bullet weights painted to closely match the body color...peg the weights and they will fill in decently for the head shape.

The snakes can be fished weightless on an EWG hook, or can be used to follow a grub on a jigead.

Best to use an exhaust fan when soldering plastics. Fumes are not good.
