Fresh cutbait or whole shad works best. You can catch catfish on just about anything but the big fish here are caught more consistantly on fresh cut shad, herring, or ailwives.

Use crankbaits they like to break my fav cranks off all the damn time... But I catch all my cats on worms! But the biggens I catch on LIVE minnows or crawdads.

i can't believe nobody has mentioned chicken livers. its the BEST catfish bait hands down. because of their soft texture, you may want to wrap it in panty hose before putting it on the hook.

We use this nasty stuff that is like a paste, we have a mesh type plastic contraption that goes over a treble hook and has a small little sponge on it, and you just dip the whole thing into the paste, and it will stick onto the hook and cast it out and wait. But I didnt think a tourny would allow live bait or anything of the such...

Gulp worms and you may catch a bass too..I would try small perch, chicken livers and shad you can't go wrong.
I am always catching channels on gulp worms while bass fishing. |

Here's my rule of thumb. If you open up the bait and go 'Holy Crap!! that smell like crap!' then you should be good to go. and for line, Berkley Big Game should work just fine.

I can't wait for somebody to go out in their backyard, find some dog crap and try to put it on a hook. I'd love to hear THAT story.

Capt Mike has caught a few kitties this summer. Send him a PM and he'll put you on the right bait and gear.
