Default rod for zebco 33

well i love my baitcaster but my dad is set in his ways and even tho he has 3 baitcasters he still cant get the thumb figured out so he prefers a spincast. he WILL NOT use an open face spinning reel. so tomorrow is his bday and im wanting to set him up with a good rod for a zebco 33. it will b a walmart rod so i dont need brand recommendations just length and stiffness. i found a 6 foot medium that im really leaning towards altho he uses this his spincast as if it were a baitcaster, he will throw anything on it so i thought maybe getting a 6'6 med/heavy but im afraid it will b too heavy to "feel" anything. just wanted to know what u guys thought

What kind of baits does your dad usually throw? I know you said "anything" but does he fish plastics a lot, or does he bait fish for cats, or does he chuck spinnerbaits....you get the idea. The way he likes to fish should determine what rod to get him.

he normally throws t rigged plastics, not much of a spinnerbait or crankbait person but he is into topwaters like hula poppers and jitterbugs. he uses a whistlerjig on a jig spinner alot (i dnt consider this a spinnerbait). he uses his baitcasters some for like jerkbaits and sometimes other stuff but normally hes using a spincast. id say 95% of the time hes got a plastic worm or grub on there.

I would go with a med power rod then. It should be heavy enough to work tx rigs and light enough to throw the smaller jig spinners. You can manage a bait that's too heavy for your rod a lot easier than one that is too light for your rod.
