Sure you got every bolt? Sure you disengaged the shift lever in the midsection of the outboard?

I have heard the drive shaft can be rusted into the powerhead. PB blaster is your very best friend. But with mine, I not only had to call my buddy PB blaster, I had to kozy up with an angler grinder too.

I got to thinking about a stuck driveshaft and remembered I had this issue once too. I used two 2x4 pieces of wood on each side of where the unit dropped a bit and levered the lower unit off with the two 2x4's..

Had to trim them down a bit to slide them in the gap but it worked as long as I used both at the same time to seperate the lower unit.

Shoot, cause of the meat thread everyone is now gonna get paranoid about whether or not something they say sounds dirty....

I wanted to clarify I did not use the angle grinder to cut the drive shaft, I used it to cut a impossibly stuck bolt off. Cutting the drive shaft would possibly create more work than the outboard is worth.

its your shift rod.

look on the side of the motor on the upper part, there will be a cover, a couple bolts, remove them, then inside that is another cover, take that off, then inside there you will see the shift rod, get a magnetic extension, or if your a good wrencher, take the regular one, then back the bolt out, and carefully back it off

i had this problem with my outboard too.. luckliy my football coach is OMC Certified
