lipless crankbaits
I have never fished with lipless crankbaits before. Does anyone have any tips on fishing them and good locations on a lake to fish them?

Just chunk and wind. There really isn't a way to fish them wrong. Burn 'em, yo-yo 'em, slow roll 'em-just vary the retrieve and let the fish tell you what they want. A great tactic is when fishing grass let it fall into the grass and rip it free. You can get some bone-jarring strikes doing that.

If you know of any brushpiles or if they are marked on a lake map, the ratLtap works well

Find a grass bed. Cat it in and skim i over the top. When you get fouled up, rip that sucker free and pull in your slack. With this technique, you don't get a vicious strike. The bass is just sort of there, and you set the hook.

i use them on rocky banks and deeper water. Just cast it and place around with the retrieves. Bouncing them off rocks and fallen trees almost gets me a fish every time.

Everything is covered with weeds around here zook, maybe that is why I have never caught fish 1 on a lipless crankbait. My brother in NC has only had luck using them over rip-rap banks bouncing them off the rocks. Good point. Anybody want to buy a bunch of ratl-traps? j/k can't sell anything, might need it someday

Zooker, I agree with the bare banks. The only thing I can think of is the bare banks have a zillion holes where the crayfish hang out. It has been more than once I've caught a limit of fish on a "nothing" bank.

Bender, may I sell you some of mine !
No longer use the Bill Lewis Rat-l-traps. Actually used to buy these things in L.A. from the origional shop. It was a small store in the middle of town. You could get lost when trying to find this place. They sold "seconds" for a $1.00 apiece. The only problem with the seconds might be an eye that didn't match the other eye, or a small finger print on the bait. (big deal !) Unfortunately, when they became the hottest lure on the market (check you BPS catalogue from several years back) they moved to a much bigger building on one of the main hwy's and no visitors were allowed in this "new" shop. Everything went into the boxes. Repainted, put in boxes and a new price was put on these baits.
