Default TM direction indicator

Quick question.
Have you or do you know how easy it is to replace the direction indicator on a Motorguide 71#?

I have looked for the schematic online and cannot find it anywhere. Motorguide owners manual does not have a diagram either.

Can you help me?
I don't want to take it apart until I'am sure I can get it back together!

My motor guide is an older one, it just has a plastic disk with an arrow on it that rotates with the shaft. I would just pop off the head and see what there is your actually dealing with. On mine there were only four screws going up through the bottom to undo and the top pops off. Good luck finding a schematic. If no one here can give you an adequate answer you might go to Bassboatcentral.com it's speacializes in boats motors and electronics. Many of the moderator work and repair boats, motors, etc. for a living.

On Motorguide the disk/arrow is just pressed on the shaft. A little metal friction ring holds it in. If it is pointing in the wrong direction just rotate it.. it will move..

If it is broken apart you will need to remove the top cap to get to it..

Slow,

try this link. Make sure to check and see if your model number is right.

IF this isn't your model, just keep looking at http://www.trollingmotorparts.com/de...Group/Home.htm

I'm pretty sure that is an easy fix, as I took my MG apart last year.

But, the important question........................ did you get it back together?
AND how many parts did you have left over?

Sorry, it's been a boring evening.

Haha....all I can say is, I will never pull apart the low unit part of the trolling motor again. It is a real bear to get back together. I'm pretty sure my motor will never run quite as nicely as it did when it was a new.

Somewhere, the Boat Monkey is smiling, as he plots against me.
