Vanish flourocarbon keeps breaking.
Last week I spooled on of my spinning rods with 10 lb vanish like I have been doing for the past 3 years. Yesterday when I was fishing, the first fish I set the hook on with that rod the line snaped. I didn't think much of it, retied and continued to fish. The next bite I got I set the hook and again, broke!! I've been using Berkley vanish for 3 years now with our any problems and now this. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this??

You may have bought a spool that is old.

Number One - Vanish was made as a leader material, mainly for the walleye guys. Vanish was not meant to be casted, at least the old wasn't, I'm not sure about the Transition.
Number Two - Fluorocarbon jumps off most spinning reels normally, and since Vanish is twice as bad as any fluorocarbon made, it will probably jump like crazy - it did for me. Number Three - Vanish sucks. Number Four - Vanish sucks. Number Five - Vanish sucks. -Buzz |

The new flouro is made to be casted not just leader material. I just bought the spool but I guess that doesn't mean it isn't old. I was looking at different flouro's today, but Im sorry I can not affort to pay 20 $ for 125 or 150 yds of line. Way out of my price range, especially when I use flouro on 4 of my rods!

How often do you change the line on your reels?

give braid a shot and that won't happen as much imo and then you could use your old flouro for leaders

I use 8lb BPS Flouro on my spinning rod and have not had any problems. I use a little line conditioner on it before I go out. Just pay attention to your line and pull when it starts to twist.

I recently tried some 14lb. test Vanish Transition for worms, jigs, and i love it! Great strenth, abrasion resistance, and it makes it easy to line watch. It is also a very thin line for 14lb. test.

I use my spinning rods loaded with flouro more in the summer months, so I probably respool twice a month.

As stated, Vanish is not meant for the repeated casting and brutal eye-crossing hooksets of bass fishing. It is designed for techniques like jigging for walleye. if you want a fluoro for bass fishing Stren 100% fluoro, Trilene 100%fluoro, P-Line Fluorocarbon, etc is what you should use. Different fluorocarbons are stiffer than other, you'll just have to find one you like. And rmeember, the more supple the line, the less abrasion resistance. That is why I use Stren Fluoro for my leaders because it is more abrasion resistant because it is stiffer than some of the other fluoros.

Get a Qtip and rub it on the top eye of your rod.. Most likly you find a crack in the ceramic.
When you cast it cuts and scrapes the line as the rod loads and casts. Capt Mike

P-Line Halo is the best fluorocarbon I've found yet. Great stuff, but $$$.

Two lines that shouldn't even be sold:
Vanish (and Transition). Stren MicroFuse. That's from bitter experience, BTW. L6 |

I've always had good luck with Maxima and Viscious fluoros. Ditto all the post on the other manufacturers, though.

I like fluorocarbon line and I've tried just about all of them. I'm settled in on XPS right now. It's strong and very abrasion resistant. It's also reasonably priced comnpared to some of the other high end fluoro's. I think it's about the best out there right now.

I do use Vanish as a leader-usually on a C-rig-and no problems so far. Didn't like it as a main line, though-way too stiff.
I like the Trilene 100% Fluoro, but have pretty much decided to move to P-Line Floroclear for all mono/fluoro applications except topwater. Trilene Maxx for that.
