Default reel comparison

ok,my friend just bought a new qauntum accurist cx500 gold and it is very nice. i want to get an extreme and was wondering which is better? i dont know alot of people that have the 2006 model extreme, they all have the '05 models. the other thing is, the extreme can be bought with the extreme rod and bps stopped carrying the cheaper accurrist combo. so in the long run,it would probably be cheaper to by the extreme combo than to buy the accurist and another rod. thanks!

The Extreme is much smoother. I bought an Accurist 500PT one time and took it back because it is not near as smooth as the Extreme.

The bait monkey tackled me at Wal-Mart the other day and dragged me over to the tackle section, where he made me buy 2 Quantum Accurist 500cx reels and two rods to go with them. God he pi#$e$ me off, but I do have to more weapons,(laughing uncontrollably and praising the bait monkey at the same time). Oh, by the way, I love the Accurist reels, I'm trying to replace all of the older reels I have, only a few more to go.

Skeeter I picked up a 6'6" Quantum Tourney heavy, and a 6'6" Fenwick med. I picked up the medium to change from spinning to casting for my drop-shot to see if it makes a difference and I picked up the heavy to throw smaller swimbaits (up to 1 1/2 ounces).

A word about buying from wally world. Dont know if they do it with all reels but they do it with abu's. Talked to a rep for wally world and found out that what they advertise is not always what they sell. Abu's are supposed to have stainless ball bearings. After I had bought 3 4600C4's started to have trouble with one. No problem tear it down and fix it. I have a dish that has a magnet attached to the bottom to keep small parts from moving. Well the bearings stuck to the magnet. Hmmmmm stainless is non magnetic. Off to wally world and the fight was on. Yes they buy the abu's from a supplier and they assemble with whatever they have on hand is what I found out. Contacted abu and they concurred. Now I dont buy from wally world anymore.

laser, not all stainless is non magnetic, although I understand that you were mislead on wallyworlds bait n switch advertising...
Acutally , stainless steel is available in a magnetic form, its alloy is called #430, where as the stainless that is non magnetic is #303 and #304.
It all welds dif. too...there is also a stainless that is water corrisive the the industry calls #316...we purchase all alloys of stainless rods, sheets, and coils at work, however I doubt if they went to enough trouble to make #430 bearings for your reel, you probably did get ripped off

JB remeber that you and I are basically in the same business. Down here we refer to the magnetic stainless as shiny carbon. Just a joke we use. I agree with you that they didnt or dont make there bb's outta 430 or 440 for that matter. You as well as some others know that if carbon is polished correctly it is much more rust resistant, much like the cold rolled and polished stock that we get at work to make the various shafts . I do beleive that when advertised that they should be a bit more clear on what they are advertising such as the newer reels with the ARB bearings. That was a marketing stratedgy in my opinion. Showed me that some of the manufacturers where using possibly 308 or 309 stainless for there bearings which you know will rust due to the fact that 308 or 309 is stainless with a certain amount of carbon, therefore it will rust.
