Dark colored loud thumping baits if the water is above 50 degree, slow dark colored (jig type) baits if the water is colder than 50 degrees. I have no "favorite muddy water" techniques because muddy water is not my favorite water to fish. lol

First off, when you say muddy, are you talking about 4' of visibility compared to a normal visibility of like 10'? or are you talking about fishing in chocolate milk?
If the second is the case, I've done well on spinnerbaits with colorado blades. Black is generally the preferred color for muddy water, but I've done well on white/chartreuse. Black and Blue jigs. Full skirt, big trailer. I use an 80 strand skirt and a full size chigger craw (or the new crazy legs chigger craw), or a 4" brush hog. If there's lots of surface weeds like pads, frogs may be another option. Here, I opt for a black Spro bronzeye frog. BB

Black and Blue jig with a sapphire blue or flipping blue plastic chunk or craw. Fished very tight to cover and slowly.

Hey Johnny,
Down south of you, I tend to go with three primary baits. In most of my waters, I don't believe that color really matters in the muddy water. My waters usually have 6-10' visibility and it is now chocolate milk. I throw jigs with bulky trailers onto whatever rock piles I can find. I prefer to use the larger PacaCraws or Sweetbeavers. The bait spends more time stationary then it does moving. I give it a short hop and then pause. This is the bait I use in 20-30 foot of water. When I am targeting the 10-15 foot range I will switch over to a crank bait. I prefer the Norman DD series. I try to drive it into the bottom and let it float back up a couple of feet and then repeat. In the water that is 10 foot and less, I use a chatter bait. I let it sit on the initial cast and then burn it for a few feet. I repeat this process. I really like to use them in a location where the run off enters your body of water. If I have a rain made stream, I will often cast them into the stream and burn them into the main body of water.

The key is usually fishing shallow. They'll be on the bank. Just flip soft plastics with a heavy rod and 30 pound plus power Pro or whatever you prefer. Use big screw-in tungsten flippin weights they are the best. I flip brush hogs, speed craws, but my favorite is the B.B. Cricket and the Mega Daddy by Gambler. I also use a shallow diving Chartreuse Rootbeer crankbait bumpin off shallow wood with 17 pound test Trilene 100 percent fluorocarbon. The key here is fishing slow. Keep that bait in the strike zone longer so he can get a look at it. Also try a shakey head with a redbug trick worm around shallow cover that never fails me. Use dark colors like black, brown, purple, blues or use a bright color like red, yellow, orange, Or a combination. Good Luck

I like to use black spinner baits with colorado blades fished around cover or multi appendage creature baits. I rig them texas style with a bead and a brass clacker, like you would use for a c-rig.

Fish tight to cover, and shallow, and try to find current and or clearer water. Fish spinnerbaits with single #4 1/2, or 5 Colorado blade spinnerbait, Red, orange, or chartreuse. Big thumpin grub trailer. Fish that thang slow and steady. If you don't get anything on the bright colors, use dark colors. Strike King mid night spinnerbaits are killer, they have rattles built in too!

I like a black spinnerbait with a gold turtle back blade. I also like a black/blue/purple jig with a Zoom black super chuck jr. Mostly fish shallow water around wood cover. I'm assuming the water is fairly warm where your at. Muddy water here wouldn't be too good now! Chocolate milk... shake!

Forums, I like that color when the water is really muddy. I'd say less than 1-2 feet visability. I have a couple large cow ponds around here and a local lake (147 acres) that I have used it in with great success. Me and my partner have thrown black/blue as well, but have caught better quality fish on the white/chart. 3/8wt.

Chatterbait. I prefer the Vibrashock by Karu lures in black cherry. Dark colors always seem to work well for me in muddy water and trust me, fishing the mighty mississippi its muddy alot. lol

A spinnerbait with a big, single Colorado blade.
Just keep in mind sound/vibration/moving water. Spinnerbaits, rattling baits or a big, bulky jig.

Darker colored rattle trap worked slowly, then probably a dark jig with rattles.

I dont fish for competition and so when its really muddy I use Night Crawlers and Minnows, golden shiners to be specific. Yes I will on occasion throw live bait and have a lot of action and fun

In muddy water conditions I use a Black spinnerbait with a single willowleaf and a single colorado blade on it. I usually won't have to put that spinnerbait down all day, but if it doesn't produce I like to throw a trick worm into flooded bushes. Make sure if you throw a trick worm that it is pink, black, or green.
