Default Not sure about this one!!!!

I am packing to go fishing/camping. Leaving in morning and coming back on Sunday.
As I was putting gear into car in driveway, the mailman came by. He asked if I was going fishing, (i was putting 3 or 4 poles into the truck) when I said yes he gave me a tip.
Ready for this?
Here goes!
this is so bad that i think i will try it this weekend

He said that when he goes fishing he likes to use scents on his hooks. But the cost is too high, so he uses Shaving Cream.

Yep shaving cream
Colgate with aloe to be exact. ( the green can )
Just shoot the shaving cream onto the "hook" before you "throw" it out.
Ok, I don't make fun of people who have their own way of fishing, but I did smile with this one.
i will try it out this weekend
Anyone ever hear of this?

Well, we ARE crazy enough to try just about anything at least once if it will catch a fish!

If you catch a cat fish, please don't try and shave it's whiskers.

did i read that right, shaving cream on a hook and that is it? that seems so plausible, i would give it a try. i have heard wd40 works too. too think i have spent a ton of money on lures, tackle, etc., and shaving cream will do the trick. hurrah.. i cannot wait to get to the river to try it out. the post made my day.

Those of you who are going to try it are invited to the mountains of West Virginia for some free deep sea diving lessons. And while you are in the mountains you will also go shark fishing. So bring alot of your shave cream just in case the sharks are bitting at 2000 ft above sea level... As zooker said! Add joke here

I have never heard of it, but I wouldn't throw it out the window as useless either. It may well contain(maybe the Aloe) some particular thing that the fish, or a specific species of fish anyway like. I would never have thought to use Wheaties before, but they work great for carp. Plus the scent may just get rid of other distasteful smells to the fish. Try it and see. If you can catch a fish on a Beer bottle cap, or Homer Simpson topwater, why not with shaving cream?

Spent about 40 dollars on lures to give to the scouts, I'm camping with this weekend, and 99 cents on my shaving cream scent. I have been doing some research on the stuff in the can to see if it has any affect on fish but nothing yet.
I said "hook" because he said hook, but he ment lures. He just called them hooks

A natural scent just might be the thing. When I go croaker fishing I take a couple packs of frozen squid to use for bait. After a couple of hours the squid have thawed and lots of juice left in the container. Seems to me that something like that could be used to dip the baits in, have never tried it, don't even know if bass would like it. But there is more logic to using something natural than it would be to use shave cream. Just a thought.

This isn't about croakers. It was just an example of using a natural scent as an attractant.

The mailman failed to tell you that the shaving cream only works on catfish. They're the only ones with "whiskers". Okay, I'll stop now. LOL

Yea I guess I was just making a random observation.

But do you really want to carry a jar of squid juice around with you in the boat? What if it spills?

be sure to let us know how the guy makes out with passing those plastic worms when he accidently swallows them once he drank up all of his good beer.
