Default trimming down

Hi guys/gals I have a 15 foot spirit bass boat with a suzuki outboard. I runs very good untill I get to about 34 mph with the trimm all the way down the the bow starts bounce around but as soon as I tilt the trim up I slow down to 32 and its stops bouncing around. Do I need a jack plate for this to stop?

thanks

Frank

sprite or sprint?? never heard of a sprite to be honest.. what size suzuki?? zuki's have a power rpm lock.. at anything over 1/2-3/4 thottle they wont trim up. smaller yamaha's have the same thing.-mine used to-

imo your over trimming. trimming the moter to high..

Hi Zooker

Its called a spirit and it has a 65hp suzuki on it. When I have it trimmed 95 % the bow starts bouncing around at 34 mph. I trim a little more and it go to 35-36 with more bouncing from the bow it feels like the boat brake in half so it trim it back down and runs smooth. Is there and way to fix this?

That sounds like Chine Walk. It happens to many boats at WOT. The best advice is to learn to control it with short steering adjustments. Watch this to get an idea:

marc
he is describing nose bounce not chin walking bounce.. besides with that boat/ moter set up he wont get enough boat out of the water for chin walk..

frank
look at the hood of your moter when you are running the boat at wot.. the moter should be parallel to the water..

watch this video frank notice how during the turn the boat hops a bit then when i stand on it it hops a couple of times than flattens out..

i shot the video on a perfectly flat lake. the flat water really shows how much the nose bounces..btw i hit 41 before i lifted to dodge the floaters..

I get alot more bow bounce. If I lower my motor a little or pur a jack plate will it solve the problem.

frank look at the moter mount what hole are the bolts in?? any idea what your rpm is at wot? what prop are you using? ss or tin??

it could be a prop, it could be moter height, it could be a number of things..

one more question is this your first boat??

yes Zooker it is my first boat. When I bought it there was a few problems with it. The motoer had a blown head gasket, and a wrong pitch on the prop. It had a 16 pitch and when I took it in Suzuki told I needed a 13 pitch for max performance. What kind of boat do you have realy looks nice.

stratos with a 50 horse yamaha..

suzuki for some reason truely under estimates there pitch degrees on a moter.. have you tried the 16 with the new power head?? a 13 should give you a blazing hole shot but a dismail top end..do you have a tach ?? would like to hear what your rpms are.. zuki moters tend to top out a 6500

I would bet he is still running the aluminum prop. Sounds to me like he is loosing bite from the prop hence the drop in speed and the nose bounce. Need more info to answer correctly. Also 13 is to low a pitch for a 65. I\Hell I ran a 15p on a 40 and stainless at that. Also need to know as well where the motor is mounted. I am familiar with the sprite boats to an extent. Pad boat and will run ok with some setup. Motor needs to be in the second hole from the bottom of the motor bolt plate and then a stainless in a bigger piych to get her closer to the sweet spot.

true laser
i run a 14+p stainless on my 50. he could every bit run a 15p or 16p stainless with ease..the reason i asked about the 16p prop..

yes frank with a ss prop you don't get the flex you do with an aluminum.. you get the full benifit of the prop design..i went from 33.4 to 37.7gps by just switchin to a stainless prop..
