Default Weekly Lake Fork report From Guide Jim Reaneau

Well, you would never guess that it is December with the weather we have had this week. The mornings were a little cool but warmed up fast. The wind was lite most of the week and the fishing was good. We had several fish over 8 pounds. Most of the big fish came from 26 to 32 foot of water. The spoon was the best bait. Some days it was hold it still and on other days it was hop it a little. The key was to uses you electronics and find bait and fish and drop a marker and back of and drop you spoons. The cold front last week brought the water temp down to the upper 40’s and low 50’s. We were still able to catch a few fish from the cold shallow water. We flipped jigs around shallow brush in 4 to 8 foot of water. The Lock Hart ½ ounce spinner bait in white with willow leaf blades did catch a few fish up shallow over the grass. The key has been to slow roll the bait just keeping it out of the grass. The lipless crank bait was another good choice. Chrome and blue was the magic color. I see there is a cold front on the way for next week so if you want to go fishing you better get out this weekend before it comes.
Key areas this week were main lake points and humps. The shallow bite was about ¼ the way back in the mouths on main lake creeks. We flipped every piece of wood and it took many flips before you got a bite. Some bites were just mush. You will have to stay in tune with your line. If you are not paying attention you will probably not catch a fish.
The crappie have moved up on the main lake and limits are getting pretty regular. We caught some really nice crappie on the jigging spoons while bass fishing.
The crappie have been in about the same depth as the bass. 26 to 36 foot has been good depth and right on the bottom.
Give me a call if you want to get some fish to carry home and have a great dinner. I brought several Yellow bass home this week and we had them that nite with fries and MERCY!!!!!. Lip Smacking Good
