I use both Spike-It and the Zoom markers. The Spike-It seems to work best on baits like a french fry or centipede and the markers are easier to use on baits with a curl tail. In stained/muddy water especially it makes the bait easier for the fish to see.

I just change the bait LOL. I do have some spike it dye's however, haven't used them forever. The smell is potent, and as already stated, it will stain carpet, fingers, everything it touches.

I use chartreuse Spike-It to color soft plastic bait tails. I fish very little without a Chartreuse tail. Depending on the original color of the bait, it get to faint chartreuse with Green Pumpkin to chartreuse with white grubs. Probably just me, but seems to make a difference---color not so much the smell.

Is Chartreuse a universal color that everyone just can't live without...? I don't have any lure or bait that is Chartreuse colored...

chartreuse is a very popular color, you probably wont find a bass fisherman without something in chartreuse color.

IHF-in stained/muddy water chartreuse is a good choice due to it's visibility. If you get a chartreuse/blue or black square billed crankbait and a chartreuse/white spinnerbait with a silver Colorado (teardrop shaped) blade in front of a gold willowleaf blade you will be able to cover most stained water situations.

I use green-orange colors in clear water, for some reason I think it makes bass mad when I use my countdown right in front of them.

get some floating rapalas too; ive had success on countdowns but floating ones are better because of the topwater strikes!

Well, I bought an x-rap 10 yesterday, and it floats. Should I use that?

yes a x rap is a great choice, however you'll have to discipline your self to fish it real slow for this cold weather/water in indiana...cast it out and twitch it once or twice and count to 10, then twitch it again...don't crank it in like a crankbait, its a jerkbait..
The reason you'll have to fish it ever so slow is due to the cold water...once the water temp gets high 40s and in the 50s you can lessen the count to about 5-8, and remember, the bass almost always hit it when its sitting still.. learn more from the SEARCH feature at the top toolbar and type in jerkbaits or x rap, this will allow you to find more info faster than waiting for the members to look at your question http://www.bassfishin.com/bassfishin...searchid=37121 |

Note of caution:
When buying dye be certain to read the label carefully. If you buy the Tail Dip, you will have a gummy coat on the tail rather than a dye that permeates and lasts well. The Tail Dip can peel off and/or ruin the action of a small curl tail, as on a 4" Power Worm or Dead Ringer. FR |
