Default all joking aside..

make sure you read and understand your local laws and regulations. and have a valid lisence.. i got a im a few mintues ago stating that a board member- i wont say who-got busted. for taking trout out of season..that's roughly $185 fine plus court cost $115.OUCH!
i in no way encourage the breaking of laws. nor did i know he was going to be fishing for the only freash water fish in nc to have a season..

we all come from differant states with differant rules of engagement and regulations. make sure you understand the rules and regulation pertaining to your secific area..

ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it..i know i have broken enough of them..

Yep, I wonder how many folks around here are getting in trouble with the NC's new live bait and saltwater license regs.

Thanks for the reminder. In Michigan they expire at the end of March for some reason. I will get this year's now.
I don't remember where I read the tip but if you can buy your license online and print it out then do it. That way you can print out a few copies and keep one in your boat, one in your wallet, and have an extra one. I know I have forgotten mine before.

I need a little help. I'm in Milwaukee. http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/fish/seasons/bass.htm
Does this mean that it is illegal to fish for bass, even if I release them, for a certain period of time?

What about on a private lake?

Thanks.

Unless noted otherwise, the dates listed are for hook and line harvest of fish, not catch and release

So that would mean it isn't illegal to catch and release?

Hummm, sounds like my son sold me out! Seems that the area we fished for a short while was closed to all fishing for the month of March. It is at the mouth of the dam in Dillsboro. The sign said that you are allowed to take 7 trout in season (All months except March). We had no intention of keeping any of the fish and breaking that law. I had no clue that you couldn't even fish there at all out of season. 50 feet past that point you are allowed to fish but you have to release any trout you catch. It doesn't really make sense but I suppose they have their reasons. One area is called a trout hatchery and the other a delayed hatch or something of that nature. The fishing really was not worth the $185.00 fine . Actually the fine was not so bad, would have been $35.00 but since im not a resident of NC it was $75.00. The killer is the court cost, $110. I think that having 2 different fine structures is not right at all. What if that applied to speeding and traffic fines? One amount if you speed in your state and a higher one (more than double)if you are caught speeding in another state. The wildlife officer was a nice guy and was just doing his job. It was an expensive lesson but it could have been worse.
