cut a hole in the bottom of the boat and paddle with your feet(barney rubble?).....lmao! or get a big egg beater..
seriously i don't think the engine you are planning to use is powerful enough to get anywhere with that big lower unit.then adapting it to the lower unit is a whole nother story..i'm sure some extensive machining will be necessary..but good luck with it.

thanks i do have oars but the river im fishing is huge and we can launch our big boat there because there is no boat ramp and no road to the place we have to carry it there and i am making the engine for fun to see how well it works.

Wouldn't it be easier to dismantle and rebuild the 25 hp engine. Bore out the cylinders and make new pistons and rings for it?

it is to much money the crank on the 25 is pitted with rust conecting rods are cracked or snapped pistons or cracked as well the only good part of that 25 was the block and the lower unit with is working fine thanks to me
my teacher doesnt want to spend that money on it it was a donation to the school and we thought it would be neat to make it in to a 5 hp motor in stead of throwing it to the scrap bins

One thing to keep in mind like whoever said.LMAO. Good idea but dont be disappointed with the end result. The gears in the lower are designed to with a 25hp in mind thereforea 5hp is not gonna have enough push power for the particular setup. It would be or come closer to working if you had a say 5,71/2, or even a 10hp lower unit. Though the experience of working on this project is priceless dont be disappointed on the end result. |
