Default Got a boat finally..

I sold my dads boat for him , so I needed to get one , I just wanted something cheap , that I can fix up alittle. I bought a 1988 Bass Tracker , 17' with trailer , it has a brand new foot controlled motor guide on it 36# never been in the water yet. A 35 horse outboard. I need to know how to clean the aluminum , I thought about painting it ? Also I need to carpet the whole thing. I seen carpet in BPS but it is rubber backed and I dont know if I can get that around the tight corners of the compartments with that backing on it... also looking for seats. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice on cleaning. Will a car steering wheel work on a boat ? The steering wheel on the boat is weathered , and autozone has some grant steering wheels. I dont know if it would work or not..

Car steering wheels "USUALLY" aren't designed to be outdoors. Seats can be cheap, or exspensive depending on what you want($25-250 each). Carpet can be bought lots of places. Painting it is strictly another maintenance issue if you ask me.

Don't do it. You'll add some unwelcome weight to a boat that isn't exactly OVERpowered. Concentrate on safety and fishablility features, to include a good trollmotor, good batteries, kill switch (if not already present), etc.
The cost, in both dollars and hours, of painting the boat and doing a quality job, would be best applied to the other concerns.
Besides, the first time you got a scratch, you'd regret having done it.
