Tire Advice Needed

hello all..need advice.i looked at my tires on trailer and they are cracked on sides.

where do you all get tires for your trailers and who do you use to put the tires on rims.

i was to wal-mart and they did not have my tire size and most were already mounted on new rims,thanks

any tire place can order them for you. have them put the tires on the rim and they also may spin balance them..trailer tires are about like a car tire to change the only real big differance is the side wall thickness..

make sure you have them replaced with TRAILER ONLY tires.. car tires will fit but when they blow you will end up needin a rim also..as the 2 ply side walls will go poof. trailer only tires have 6 ply side walls..

I haven't had to replace mine yet, but from what I understand Discount Tire-if you have them in your area-is a good place to get them.

With a trailer all of the wear is concentrated on the middle of the tread. If you overinflate the tires, you'll be riding on only the very center of the tread, and it will wear rapidly.
In addition, wheel alignmnent is never going to be perfect. As a result, the paired tires will always "scrub" a bit. If the tires are rock hard, this will cause rapid wear. If the tires are softer, they can flex slightly sideways to accommodate the scrub, without wearing the tread off. With trailers, severe overinflation can also lead to flipping the trailer over, due to the tires bouncing on road irregularities.

You also need to read the manufactures air pressure requirement. My trailer tires require 50 PSI.

no just the tire rim combo that fits under the loaded boat.. i have seen 21" rims under basscats boats..

most trailers run a ford bolt pattern -4.5-5" -

I seen that at the BassCat factory and have to say that is the most RIDICULOUS WASTE of $6000 on a dual axle trailer. Also I might add even though somem of those people think its cool I have talked to a tire rep and he himself told me "Be it a car a truck or a boat trailer anything over a 17inch tire is gonna cause you problems. With you running down the road air increases as the heat builds up, on the 21 and 22 inch tires there is no room for expansion so then you are primed for a explosion" This came from a tire rep.

couple questions.my tire size is b78-13..they say you can use ST 175/80d-13..when checking i see that there is ST175/80R-13..

is there a difference on the D or R?

then you have b,c,d rating on this size also.can you explain.thanks

ahh the old 175/80-13.. this is stock tire size on my stratos trailer..-mine is a 5 bolt- trail america,good year marathon,carlise...all make trailer tires in this size trail america is what i have on mine and have put a LOT of miles on them in the past 5 years maybe they will last me another year or so...

r is the radial -you want this one- the b,c, or d is the side wall ply thickness.. believe -don't quote me- c is the 6 ply side wall..

thanks for info, hopefully last question, ha..i found tire place that had st 175/80 r 13..he said 52 dollars with tire mounted.i said about balance and he did not know that..i have 2 tires on my trailer,is it necessary to have tires balanced?thanks

I would personally never have any new tire installed without balancing them.

most tire places cost $15per tire for balancing-well worth it-..

$52 aint half bad..

that price was real good, i could not find anything on internet under 70 dollars with shipping..

the old tires were not balanced from my nitro 17ft..

i guess i should have new stems put on too?

Don't second guess your trailer tires, it's what's keeping that boat rolling, and off the pavement, buy everything new that you can (not necessarily the rim!), it's money well spent.

i have to say, i am very happy with the tire guy i went to..he mounted,balanced,new stems my ST175/80 R 13 ,6 ply tires for $ 52.71 ea...

boy were my tires bad,he said they were cracked and hard as rock..they were on there for12 years..

12 YEARS... holy crap... suprised they did not let go on the way to the tire shop..

yes, you are right..i have not used my nitro in bass tournaments for 2 years and those tires really went bad from sitting..

the brand of those tires was TOWMASTER..
