Okuma
I see this reel brand everywhere. Usually at good price or on sale (it's like if there is a reel sale there will be at least one Okuma). Yet I also see them in the $100-300 range. Yet, I not only don't know anyone who has ever owned one, but I've never even hear talk about them. Thier everywhere yet nowhere.
So, anyone own one, use one, seen one, held one, heard of one (I think you got the idea)? Good fishing to all! |

Don't own one and don't use one, but I have seen them, held them and heard of them. Most of the models are very high quality. Some peoplethat have used them compare them favorably to any of the top brands. Okuma reels are very well known with the saltwater anglers and have a top quality reputation for those models. It may take some time for them to gain popularity with the freshwater crowd, but I would not be afraid to check one out. If you find one that you like, if it feels good in your hand, if it has the features you want, and if the price is fair, then buy it, you will probably be pleased with it.

I have 2 of the spinning reels and one of their baitcasting rods. 7 foot medium action. The reels have always worked smooth and the rod is what i use for my finesse type fishing.
No complaints here and wouldn't hesitate buying any more of their products. But saying that all i will vouch for are the spinning reels and baitcasting rods. Don't have baitcasting reels so won't have an opinion on them. |

I don't own one but I have held a few and I can say that the fit and finish looks good.

i have one, ZOOKER left it to me. i like it. itis the AL-200 aluma. it's blue. i use it everytime i go out. it's on a duckett micro rod and i use it for spinners and cranks. the only thing i DON'T like is the fact that there is no magnetic dial on the other side of it.
this is just ONE of the reels i want to send to pro reel for servicing. maybe get ol pro to super tune it too.

Have the Sratus and Metaloid spinneg reels and the Cayanne baitcaster. The spinning reels have held up for 4 years now. Got the baitcaster last year and it's a good reel. Casts very smoothly. It has the abec (I think) bearings.

I have a Serrano and I really liked it the few times I have fished with it. It did take a good cleaning before I used it though because it had a lot of grease in it. But it throws like a humdinger now and is smooth as silk. The only con other than the grease is the side plate totally detaches when you adjust the brakes. It looks like a good recipe for the drink on a muffed handle.

Okuma makes good quality reels. As stated they just haven't caught on in a big way yet with the freshwater market.

Amazon has the Serrano for $114 right now. Save another $30 if you sign up for Amazons' credit card. I did.

Use an older 30 size avenger for finesse fishing, and have a 20 size stratus on an ultralight for panfish. Love both of them, and both are smooth as heck.
