How should I mount a transducer?

Just got a new depth finder, an Eagle FishMark 320. I'm trying to decide where I should mount the transducer.

Given that readings from near the transom are not as useful as readings from the front of the boat, should I try and mount through the hull? I have an old v-bottom aulminum boat.

don't you use a troller up front? if so mount it on that. if not use sand paper and scratch up the bottom of the transducer using contact cement -the whole tube-glue it in the very bottom of the boat.-front back no matter- just not were you are going to step on it. also some not all but some transducer work better with a bit of water around them..

If you have a temperature gague on it it needs to be in the water for an accurate reading. The problem with a trolling motor mount is it doesn't do much good when you are running. If you mount it on the transom mount it as low as possible-if it is too high you will get bad readings due to cavitation.

you better make sure that the transducer will shoot thru an aluminum hull...laser should know.

Forget about shooting through a can boat buddy. What hull do you have??? The best place to mount any transducer and get the BEST readings are as close to center as possible. You have one thing going against you on a aluminum boat if it is a riveted boat. When running the rivets setup turbulence causing bubbles. A transducer will loose its readings trying to shoot through air or bubbles. One way to get past this problem is mount it a little deeper than normal just be very careful not to jump a stump and take out a transducer. If ya let me know what hull you have I can be much more specific on the mounting.

13 1/2 ft V Hull, Riveted. Its an early 60s model Sears if you know those. Rebs right about mounting on the TM, otherwise I'd do that. I previously had a Hummingbird, so I will probably end up just putting this transducer where that other transducer was. I tried shooting through the hull yesterday and got depth readings, but it was a little too finicky.

If your not running at any speed to speak of you can go ahead and mont the trans as descibed before ..as close to the center as possible and just put the trans a little deeper than normal. Will give you a true reading then. Just make sure when mounting it that a roller or bunk on the trailer wont take it off.
