Any of y'all watch the Deadliest Catch on the Discovery channel?
I am absolutely hooked watching this show-we think WE have to deal with tough conditions? Ice, 40 foot seas...no thanks.

Yes I do. Cool show. I looked around online, cuz a job like that interests me, and I found that there are lots of jobs on salmon boats. NOt quite as much cash, but a lot safer. Be something to do after I graduate.

I absolutely love the show too Reb... There is no way I would ever want to be a deckhand in the bering sea, but if there was ever some way they would hire me to skipper a boat... sign me up. All my life I've wanted to be a crabber... minus the back-breaking work of course.

It's all about the money baby. I watch it all the time and think "I could do that!" Then they show the ice and 40 ft seas and forget about it. The one ship, the deckhands made 35 grand a piece. Thats a paycheck.

But seriously, folks... I watch the show now and then and it scares the Bejeebus outta me. Those have to be the bravest (apart from combat troops and naval aviators)/most desperate(apart from the Aggie coaching staff)/craziest (apart from naval aviators) men and women in the world. From now on, I chew my crab meat VERY slowwwwwwleeeeeeeee. F.Rod Tailgunner, Reb's boat |

I love the show! Got hooked on it last year while on vacation and was thrilled to see another season. Now they're covering the 'opie' (ophelia crab) season, a nice second helping after the king crabs. To point out an example of how hard that job is, who remembers the dude who was going to throw himself overboard unless they took him back to the port? You think he bit off a little more than he could chew??
Who is everybody's favorite captain? I've got to go with Sig Hansen on the Northwestern. And his brother who is on the crew cracks me up! And did you catch that the narrator is the dude from Dirty Jobs! Mike something or other.... |

I do watch it occasionally, just can't watch psychos for too long lol. I wouldn't do it for one day. I moved SOUTH for a reason. I do think it's about the best TRUE REALITY show I've seen in awhile.

i've seen it, good show. although 10" waves in my 9 foot boat are about equivelant to those crab boats in 35-40 foot waves, lol.

If you're serious, check out some of the halibut and salmon jobs. Less cash, but hey, no 40 foot waves inshore. Even if you're just casually interested, it's a cool site to look around.

Favorite Captain
The captain of the Rollo is great! He jumped on deck and helped out the last episode...One of them wears a Penn State hat, which shows his obvious good taste

I could handle the situation, I've been on the lake in 2 ft swells.
Wrong, but it is an interesting show. These guys are tough. I guess when your brought up in certain conditions then thats the life you lead. I personally was brought up in a lazy environment, lots of TV,junk food, sleeping. Which is why I continue the tradition. Maid, I'm busy watching "rastling". So go and sweep that floor, and when your done, go wash my car !
